I had my brayces on for two years and 4 months and im getting them off soon and want to know if it is going to hurt. One time my bracket popped off and that didnt hurt, but when they had to take the cement off my tooth it hurt really bad and i dont know if it will feel worse when i get them all off. My friends said they hurt worse on their bottom teeth. is that true? if you could help me out that would be great, thanks.

No it does not hurt! It's actually the best feeling to get them off :) It may feel odd since you are so used to having them on your teeth for so long but the most I can say is just feeling a little pressure and pulling, but nothing worse then having them tightened.
You'll be ok! Don't worry about it :)

No, the actual removal of braces doesn't hurt. I've had them twice. The first time being in 3rd grade (stupid I know since my baby teeth hadn't fallen out), and the last in 7th grade. When they take them off, they're going to remove the wire like they do to change it, and then they're going to remove the brackets. All you should feel is some pressure and a pop. The caps around your back molars may be a little more difficult to remove, but they won't hurt either. As far as lasering your gums, I don't know about that because I never had it done. But, I would say that if it is going to hurt, they're going to numb you up first. Which could be a gel or if they give you shots, that should be the only thing that hurts. But, all you have to do is tell them your concern and they'll fix it. Since you are essentially the customer, you tell them what you want. An orthodontist has all the things a dentist does as far as laughing gas, numbing medicine, etc. They can give it to you if you ask. Good luck, you'll be fine!

NO, it doesn't hurt. If you've got real old-style braces (going around the tooth lik a ring) as opposed to brackets (glued to the tooth) it can feel a bit disagreeable at times if a bit of force needs to be applied to remove them. Disagreeable but it will not hurt.

After the braces are off, the orthodontist will remove any cement deposits, and check that your mouth is clean everywhere. Depending on how well or not you brushed your teeth while wearing braces, it may be that part of your gums will have become more sensitive (it may also be that you have a new cavity or two, but let's hope not). Well if the orthodontist needs to clean with a tool close to a sensitive, badly brushed gum, this can also feel disagreeable / hurt just a bit.

But all in all it's probably a good deal much less painful than, say, spending an evening wearing a pair of great-looking but rather uncomfortable new shoes ;-)

Good luck

No, they do not hurt. I am an Orthodontist, so I do know what I am talking of. We hold the brace with a plier (pin cutter) and squeeze the bottom. This removes the brace off the tooth. Then we use a hand piece (some thing the dentist uses to drill the tooth) to remove glue. While taking off the glue, some teeth may be sensitive to the cold air from the handpiece and yes it is more common and pronounce in the bottom and top fron teeth. But once that is done, it if fairly easy. This is followed by impressions for retainers, photos and X-rays. I just took off braces for 4 patients today and nobody complained. Hope that helps

Mine didn't hurt at all. It feels weird, but not painful. I remember thinking my teeth looked really big, though. Congrats on getting your braces off, it really is wonderful!

You should feel some pressure, but not really pain. They have special machines for melting or getting rid of the cement, so that's painless as well. It just takes a while and your mouth might be sore from being open for so long. But it's not that bad really!

No, it doesn't hurt, but you do feel weird after their off. It's a great feeling to have those babies off and your appearance improves dramatically too.
