Because from the very beginning the church realized that the more people they could get under their control by this message the more powerful they could become. It still holds true today.

"A good product sells on its own merit not becuase of free offers or aggressive marketing!"

Really? Then why do you see so many advertisements for good products? Because business people know the sad story about businesses that have gone out of business because they thought everyone knew how good their product was, that's why.

But to answer your question, let me give you a question. Why does a lifeguard try so hard to save a drowning man whose actions seem like the person is trying to fight the lifeguard and to drown both of them? It's because he wants to save another person, that's why.

In this world there are many false religions that seem similar to Christianity. The Mormon and Jehovah's witnesses are two that come to mind. The Bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing from the Word of God. That's why Christians have to keep tossing out the gospel lifeline in the hope that another person might take hold of it and be saved from this sea of deception.

When you go into a store have you ever had someone come up to you and ask can they help you? Well "sales people" just have to sell you something and that's why Christians are trying to convert people from other religions. If they get all the people to join them then they rule the world. If the sales person gets everyone to buy his or her products then he gets the biggest commission. It's all about the end result.

Jesus gave all of His followers the great commission in the last chapter of the Gospel of Mathew. We are instructed to teach everyone about God and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Since the only way to live forever and be happy is through the gift from God of the death of His Son, all people need to know this in order to have a chance of a happy life for all eternity. Christians naturally want to tell everyone of this great opportunity. Satan is trying to prevent people from hearing about this tremendous gift and accepting it. It is a privilege to tell others about God's love and His great gift.

Happiness is good, but at the end of the day, Christianity isn't really about being happy in this life. It's about getting to Heaven after we die.

That's why we try to convert people. To us, it's an act of charity. It's an act of trying to help total strangers get to Heaven.

Don't pastors and priest's collect the tithing?

How else are you gonna get a raise?

And if you can't get people to join your church... just distort the gosple a little to make it more appealing, and to "save" more people.

ex:
The Sabath isn't important anymore... it's what's in your heart.
You can have sex with whoever! It's what's in your heart.
You're saved, And everyone else is going to hell... Look into your heart.
Being a good person doesn't matter.. Just accept jesus into your heart.

take 100,000 of churches over 2000 years and you're gonna end up with some severly distorted truthes.

While growing up I used to witness to people and when they became a christian it was a big rush. It's all selfish reasons. That's the sad part. In the end christians think they are being good and helping others, but they're just being selfish.

The joy of christian conversion is beyond any comparison.
The problem here is if they act according to the command of God or to their own imagination.
If your God is true, He must be also the God of Christians and of all other people. Otherwise you should turn to the God of the Christians, Who is the Creator of all worlds. God of any particular group is not the One True God.

Because Christians were given a command by Jesus to do so. (Matthew 28:19,20) So, they will keep on doing this, no matter what people say or do to them.

The thing is that, if they were to do it the same way that Jesus did it, then more people would be happier, and perhaps more people would respond.

But, you have to keep in mind that the majority of Jesus' own countrymen refused to listen to him, and the Jewish religious leaders of his day, even requested that the Roman government kill him. (references available)
So, it is the same today.

Because they are too stupid, ignorant and intolerant to realize that they do not have a monopoly on religious belief, other people may have beliefs that are different from theirs but still just as valid.

It is this kind of religious intolerance that in the past and present has and does cause wars, hatred, torture and death.

Because ( and I just learnt this yesterday ) .. In order to BE a christian.. part of our faith, part of being a good christian.. is to spread the word and try to get other people to believe..

If Christians didn't do that, then they would be going against their religion, and not being a good follower. That's why.
