I had credit cards for 18 years, beginning with a Citibank card, then Capital One, Chase, then Discover. I now owe over $20,000 and had defaulted on my payments. I just got approved for a DMP (debt management plan) with NovaDebt to repay the cards at the rate of $414 a month @ 6% interest for the next 51 months. Their terms are really strict: Late even once, the rates will go back up to 31% and account will be considered for immediate collection.....please don't use any more cards, even if you think you can handle it. I was doing great until I was laid off unexpectedly after almost 21 years with the same employer. That's what ruined my credit. I guess many of us here will learn it the hard way anyway.

No more credit cards for me. I got in trouble with them because I have a hard time telling myself, NO! Now I only use cash and, as a result, when I have to actually take the cash out of my wallet I'm more aware of spending (and what's left).
