The people who can't let go are people who *need to* believe. There is something — or a lack of something — inside them that makes them emotionally dependent upon organized religion. Part of it is an inability to cope with the world as it really is, a desire to submit to authority figures such as "God", a need to feel belonging. As Carl Sagan wrote, "You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe."

There is historical and archeological evidence to support events described in the bible. Some who are not even religious view it as an historical manuscript. Aside from that, whether there was evidence or not, millions of people around the world find it's principles relevant to their everyday lives thousands of years after it was written. There must be some validating force that keeps the bible alive for so many people. This is a fact that must be respected.

Because overwhelming evidence in nature, archaeology and conotemporary society calls for the logical and reasonable persons to acknowledge the truths of the Lord.

So why do not the ignorant stop attacking that which they do not understand? Not just referring to Christianity. Why do those who do not "get it" feel the need to attack it?

I believe it is a condition called "rebellion." Examine your actions and judge them for yourself. Are you not rebelling against something that millions have stated they have personally experienced and know to be true? The personal experience is the testimony that gives it credence. They haven't just blindly followed something, they each personally were changed by their encounter(s) with God, and they each say so.

So if you did not have the encounter that makes it a fairy tale? Wow, moon shots and visits to the depths must be fairy tales to you, too. YOU haven't experienced everything, and anything YOU haven't experienced isn't necessarily fake.

Because they need to believe, they need to be comforted, because logic and reason are foreign to them (funny how emotion can trump logic in most humans, but that's just how the brain works, pity).

It's really not worth it to waste your time on them. Of course, we're morally obligated to attempt to convict them of the truth, which is not in them and their Bible or Quran or Torah or any other holy book or religion. So it's not worth it, but we're still obligated. Look at the world around you, even the USA is losing its virulently Christian majority, more adults now than ever at least say they don't know one way or another. Sure we've lost some ground in favor of the absolutely sure christians, but give it time. Europe and Asia are the lead in the trend away from religion, and the USA eventually will be saved from these myths, whether believers like it or not.

They have been told otherwise. People are inclined to believe that those closest to them will not lie.

If the Bible is a "fairy tale", then it is an especially grim one.

People have commented that the Bible contains wisdom and guidance of God. It does contain useful wisdom and guidance, however, there is a thing called MYTHOLOGY which the Greeks and Romans (and others in their individual cultures) thought to be entirely true. They used stories to explain things which were unknown to them; they used stories to convince people to behave in certain ways.

Most people now have no problem accepting that these were just that, STORIES, used to perform a purpose of guiding people's lives, but in no way true.

As some mentioned (esp. MAPS, Nice). This is a matter of faith. Can you prove beyond a doubt that George Washington existed? Not in a lab. You have to look at historical documents, a dollar bill, etc. In that regard you have faith that the information is accurate, but you cannot scientifically prove it. Such is the way with the Bible. Historic evidence proves to me that the Bible is based upon the word of God and my faith in this is what allows me to believe in God and in the sacrafice Jesus made for us.

I say why can't people open their eyes and see the Bible for the truth that it is? It is no way a fairy tale. Why is it that you cannot leave us christians alone with our beliefs and our God.No matter what you say God still loves you and if you ask He will forgive you. Wow just like a parent no matter what our kids do to us we still love them and forgive them.

Tell me, do you like everything that I like? NO, well why not? I was sure you would since you think everyone should think alike. In fact why don't you think the way I do or the way the rest of the people answering this question do?
See, it doesn't always work that way because we are individuals and none of us think completely alike.
Try to remember that the next time you ask a question.
