I am a Catholic. And John Chick, the author of these pamplets, was a fraud that became a multimillionaire by the tracts.

Chick ALSO believe that the catholic church began every major war. Was responsible for ALL major political assinations..including Abraham Lincoln. HE believes the Vatican keeps a secret database of all protestants. He believes the catholics started WW2, and was in league with Nazi Germany. He labeled John Paul 2 as a communist. NUTS!

You didn't add these tracts to your question. WHY?

Chicks main cartoonist was alberto rivera. Alberto falsly calimed he was a priest. No record of him as ever been found being a priest, and the seminary he claimed he recieved training at HAS NEVER EXISTED. Rivera in reality is a two timed divorced, FELON from California.

John Chick was a recluse, into conspiracies that can't be proven, and is widely acknowledged as a total fraud.

+ Sources of Doctrine +

The Catholic Church does not use Holy Scripture as the only basis of doctrine. It could not. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written (by Catholics).

There were hundreds of Christian writings during the first and second centuries. Which New Testament writings would become official was not fully decided until about 400 AD.

Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like:
- The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)
- Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the Ten Commandments)
- The Communion of Saints
- Which writings include in the New Testament?

Things that are even more modern like
- Slavery is bad. Slavery is never declared evil in the Bible. This is one of the justifications for slavery in the Confederate States.
- Democracy is good. The Bible states that either God should be the leader of the nation like Israel before the kings or kings should be the leader, "Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's." This was talked about a lot during the American Revolution.

This second source of doctrine is called Holy Tradition.

+ Communion of Saints +

Before Jesus Christ died for our sins and opened the gates of heaven there were no saints in heaven. Very few of the new Christians died before most of the New Testament was written.

The Holy Spirit guided the early Church in many things not explained in the Bible including how does the Body of Christ (believers) on Earth relate to the Body of Christ (saints) in heaven. We are still one Body.

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.

+ With love in Christ.

Whoever whote it doesn't know anything about the Church or what they believe. Why don't you see what they really believe before you make a decision and try to change other people's beliefs?
Question: Why would Christ build his church on 'The Rock' Peter and then not really start until Martin Luther broke away from the church 1300 years later?

here's what they reall believe: http://www.catholic.com
We know the difference between God and man.
We go to confession because Christ said that what is forgiven on Earth is forgiven in heaven.
We pray to the Saints because the Bible says you can, but we know the saints throw down their crowns before they would be worshipped. We know that worshipping any graven image or person is heresy, therefore we do not do it no matter what your preacher says. To us, the Pope represents Peter, who was head of the church that Christ built. We don't worship him.

Sorry, but this is certainly an offensive post.

Catholics are Christians, and like any other religion, should not be targeted thias way. You are free to believe whatever faith system you wish, but shouldbnttarget a group of people about their personal beliefs this way.

And you didnt ask a question. If you want to debate religion do so- but you shouldn't go to a question and answer board such as this and just preach your position.

toniann m,
The RC's are of course going to deny everything. Oh well.

So far that I have seen, only one who thinks you are peaching hate, maybe they are all at Mass?

Edit: Okay make it two.

The thing the second guy is doing is trying to attack the messenger.

I agree that Jack Chick goes too far with some of his attacks on the RCC. But what about this tract? Common knowledge. Mary is not a mediator, a Queen of Heaven in th RCC sense, and Jesus NEVER wanted us to pray to her. That's Biblical and irrefutable.

Sorry RC's!

You're not a fan of Jack Chick, are you?

He's such a raging anti-Catholic bigot, that even other anti-Catholic bigots shun him.

As for "praying to saints," we don't pray to saints. We ask them to pray for us. There's a difference.

If you ask me to pray for you, it doesn't mean that you're praying TO me. Understand?

Again, we ask the saints to pray for us. Where in the Bible does it say that we CAN'T do this?

Jack Chick is a noted opponent of Roman Catholicism.

i always got a good laugh off of him, because of the hyperbole he brought forth

Do you really believe God would say such horrible things? His cartoons are drenched in hate and ignorance. He has no idea what Catholics believe. I doubt he's really even put much effort into studying Catholicism. And how can you explain marian apparitions?
