I don't know where people get the idea that if you pray for something, you must get it because you hear that God is good and you just have to pray for what you want. Sorry, that is not how it works. God is a good God, however, he answers your prayer in different ways. You can pray for something that you think is something good, even if it is something for someone else. God knows everyone's life and where it is going and knows what's best for all of us. Sometimes he does not answer to what you ask for because he already knows that what you are praying for will not work out best for your future life. Sometimes he offer you something other than what you ask for and you don't understand why, but most of the time, later on, you realize why he did not give you what you asked before. You can pray for something for someone else and if he see that is not what that person needs, he will not give it. He only help those who help themselves. He is not there to just give us all we ask for. We must try to help ourselves too. When you get to a point where you can not handle a situation anymore, you pray and ask him to take the situation into his hands and handle it because you can not handle it and have faith that he can and you will see the difference. Also, you should not try to compromise with God. You do not say, God, if you do this for me, I will do that for you. That does not work. What you are offering to do for him if he help you, is what you should have been doing in the first place. You don't make exchanges with God. You just have faith and pray and leave him to make the decisions on what is best for your life. Accept it when he does not give you what you ask for because he knows why he did not give it to you and it is always for the best. Don't forget that no matter what his answer is to your prayer, you must always thank him. Prayer does not work when you only remember his when you need a prayer answere.

Yes! I met my husband this way and actually everything I have I have got this way. God, I believe knows what we want and what we need and if you ask him/her for things he/she delivers, it may be a good thing and it may be a bad thing but from all he/she gives and delivers there is something to learn from each... I also believe that he/she allows you to get the things you want and need when the time is right and in his own time and so that we get the most out of the experience weather it is a good lesson or bad. I am very greatful and I must say I hope you know what it is you want with all details before you ask b/c you may ask for something leaving details out and wonder why later it wasn't what you wanted by leaving out the little details you probably won't be happy b/c it is only a part of what it is that you really wanted - Details count, leave nothing out and go over your list again and again before asking, ask yourself do you really want this, list your reasons for wanting this and always no matter what take responsibility no matter how it turns out b/c it was you that asked to begin with.. Also do not be angery if you think you aren't getting it b/c you might in 20 years from now &/or if you never get it at all b/c he/she might not agree in the first palce and it could have been devistaing and you're probably better with out anyway..

We can petition, we can pray, even pray en masse... God answers all prayers, regardless of how small or how large or how much faith is behind it...

The real question is this: "Are you willing to accept God's answer to your prayer? Even if it is not the answer you want?" If you cannot accept all of God's answers, you will surely be disappointed, and that is no longer God's fault...

God is not a jeannie in a bottle...rub & make a wish. God hears prayers & answers them in His own time. We don't always get what we want when we want it. God has a plan for your life. What you want right now may not be in His will or the timing may not be right in your life. Ask God's will to be done in your life. If you go to Him with a problem or question in earnest prayer...it will be answered. Just remember, if you ask for His help, be prepared to get it.

Absolutely.......if you keep your heart clean and pure. If you ask for spiritual things and the necessities of life. Prayer is not for personal gain of money and materialistic things...it is for spiritual needs and personal crisis, such as health, etc. If you are His Child and part of His family, you know you will receive whatever you ask if it benefits Him and YOU, by glorifying God.

Many ask for things and then go out and trangress against God. Many say their are Godly, yet live more for Satan and the World. A double minded man is unstable, neither should he think he will receive anything from the Lord. We must be single minded and not two faced. God KNOWS how many faces we have. He wants just ONE.

What type of petition ? asking to take revenge on our enemies ? or asking for simple monetary benefit ? demanding luxury life ?
normally i believe that our genuine demand surely fulfilled by Almighty God. In India , many spiritually elevated persons teach us how to attain our needs (if it is genuine!). India is big country with various type of society. for example if my kid is not good in education, if i demand , as per their teaching, i have to buy text books and other school materials and donate to the poor pupil with devotion regularly to attain my goal. by doing so either my kid can become alright on his/her education or can have the will power to stand on his leg. So the petition what i gave to god will be executed to the best of my satisfactions . trust to god is more important than belief on god .subbu_adraya@yahoo.co.in

Yes, I believe God answers prayer. Sometimes it's immediate, exactly as we hope and sometimes we have to wait on His timing and the answer isn't as obvious.
John 14: 12-14
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it

Better to pray for inner strength, wisdom, the knowledge to recognize opportunities, good health, and the capabilities to accomplish the things that you want.
One is more likely to receive these more readily than the "thing" that one desires. On the way, one often realizes that the "thing" is unimportant, OR, one has obtained the "thing" and found it to be harmful or unsatisfying.

"Be careful of what one wishes for. One may receive it."

Yes and I'll be petitioning God for next week's lottery numbers. If I don't get a reply then I'll assume that He doesn't exist. Either that or He won the money and kept it for himself.

I believe God hears all of our prayers, and that sometimes unanswered prayers are for a reason. I think if you pray for something, and God believes it to be something you need in your life, He will make it happen.
