Yes, maintenance and operating costs were the reason, but public opinion after the crash was an influence as well.

Two main reasons

1) Costs to maintain the aircraft. Like all aircraft, the older they get the more costly it becomes to maintain them. The Cost per passenger mile was getting to a point where it was too expensive to transport so few passengers and still pay the high costs t keep the aircraft flying.

2) Safety. Many safety issues came up after the concorde crashed in France.

Operations of CONCORDE Aircraft were stopped due to the following reasons :
1} High Maintenance cost particularly on fuel.
2} Opposition by many countries who objected to supersonic speed which they felt produced lot of noise.

If I am wrong tell me. I believe it was a French plane. Knowing the French if it did not go over big then they dumped it. As they have other things in History.
Sorry for the flaming but he French Government just makes me mad.
They have some very good people there but they also back down on anything that looks like it will need a commitment on there part.

Very high cost of operation and maintenance. Not enough ticket revenue to cover costs. That's death in any business venture.

They ran out of rich guys who wanted to pay $10000 for a plane ride to Europe or Africa. They were also scared that if another one crashed lawyers would eat them alive on insurance claims.
