It DOESN'T MATTER!!
You don't need to drink 8 glasses (2 litres) of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. Just drink when you're thirsty. Period!

This is a ridiculous number to give. So much depends on temperature, activity with perspiring and intake of other fluids such as soft drinks or sport drinks. The size of the person is also important. Eight glasses a day they used to say and I found that ridiculous. You would need a lot of salt with that.

About 2 litres. In hot, humid climates, or if you excercise a lot, you drink about 3.

As I remember, the formula is (your weight in KG)/16*2
Also, dont drink too much as this will decrease your mineral equilibrium, namely, sodium.
Someone actually died from drinking too much and urinating all of his sodium
