I don't know what kind of dog you have/are about to get. Is it a male? female? large breed? small breed?

When I've had puppies in the past, I allowed some time (after I brought the pup home) to let the dog's personality develop. Then I'll give him/her a name that's suitable. For example, once I "babysat" for a whole litter of pups (along with their mother). After a couple of weeks, one pup (a female) was the first one to climb out of their bed and explore her surroundings. I named her "Polo", after Marco Polo, who was a curious and brave adventurer.

Another "angle" is to give the dog a name that seems completely UN-suitable, like a tiny chihuahua named Goliath, or a large mastiff named Tinkerbell.

elvis is good, but jesus would be a problem when you are calling him to the house, the neighbors may not like you calling out to jesus.

What kind of dog is it? What is it's personality like? I think that's really important to take into consideration. I know of a rat terrier named Killer, which is a funny name for a lap dog in my opinion.

It would help to know the breed. I had a dog named "Enzi" which is Swahili for "powerful".
Try looking for foreign names that mean something. The search can be fun.
