This has happened to me several times throughout my life. I am sleeping when suddenly i wake up because I feel this evil presence. I can't open my eyes (and I don't try to either) but I can't move or speak. It's like I'm paralyzed. But I feel this fear so I start praying. After a while I just fall back to sleep.

I can deny the presence of evil. What do these people above think you have done, to deserve some kind of "evil" presence in your room while you are trying to sleep? What are you supposed to have DONE?!

It sounds to me like night terrors. It's a common sleeping disorder and you should consult your doctor. You may have experienced some kind of trauma or upset that you are suppressing which is manifesting itself at night by waking you in a terrible fear. Don't on any account start considering the voodoo you might hear in the R&S section. Go and ask the same question in the medical forum instead.

You have my sympathy. Good luck with the treatment and I hope it goes away.

It is not either. It is a quirk of how the the brain controls the body while we sleep. Some people become conscious before the brain allows the body to move. For some reason still not well understood, the brain perceives this "evil" at the same time. Historically, it may have been responsible for the old tales of succubi and other demons visiting people while asleep.

To me, this is like the voices some schizophrenics hear, always telling them to do something bad. You never hear of voices telling them to go to New Orleans and build a house.

It has been around for as long as humans have slept. It only affects a few people, but it has not been studied well, so it may be that milder forms happen without anyone paying attention to it.

Its possible that this is Sleep paralysis...

Sleep Paralysis (SP) is a common medical condition and usually tagged nowdays as a Sleeping Disorder.
The symptoms can sometimes include complete to partial paralysis of arms, legs and upper torso, a tight or heavy pressure on your chest sometimes with a choking sensation and almost always experienced as you are about to fall into sleep or just come out of sleep.
The most remarkable symptoms of SP are the accompanying audio and/or visual hallucinations often causing extreme terror and panic in it's sufferers, who more often than not mistakenly believe they are being visited by aliens, malevolent beings and other evil presences.

Research shows that SP is linked with REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. When in REM sleep you are usually dreaming, your body does not act out your dreams as you will hurt either yourself, or someone else, so evolution has worked its merry little way of getting your brain to switch off your muscles (so to speak) and relax you while dreaming, essentially paralyzing you to a degree.

That is called a night terror. The body induces paralysis during REM sleep to prevent you from "acting out" your dreams. Occasionally, you will wake up and the paralysis will still be there. Don't let people tell you it's demons. You can get help for this. It is a medical condition. Good luck to you!

Some will say that you are having night terrors or sleep paralysis, others will say that you are being visited by an evil spirit. To combat both possibilities, go see the doctor and see what's going on, and before you go to bed at night, cast out your room by saying "In the Name of Jesus Christ get out!" If you are still nervous when you go to bed, and you can't fall asleep, do it again, or say the Lord's prayer over and over again. Have faith that if you call on Jesus, he will protect you. Keep a Bible by your bed too so that you can read it and be inspired by Jesus' power.

What you have is a mild sleep disorder, which is not that uncommon; I think it happens to most people sooner or later. It's a form of sleep paralysis and one of the symptoms is that the person senses someone or something "evil" in the room with him or her.
