They are excellent! I used to show Bloodhounds in the ring, and they are the most placid and easy going dogs with other dogs and my two youngsters at the time. The one drawback is the do drool and fling slobber everywhere! Be prepared to have a sponge handy to spot walls, yourself, etc! LOL! I miss them greatly and I would glady get another if I had a place large enough, though they are rather low key and need an occasional walk. Watch out for hip dysplasia and bloating in the breed! They are prone to this! Do some reading before you purchase this or any breed to find out what to anticipate in health needs as puppies and later on in life.

I agree with the previous post about bloodhounds being passive and placid animals. The only thing that I would warn about them is their sense of smell. Remember they were bred to track down animals so once their noses finds something of interest they will follow that trail till they find it. So If you don't have a very secure yard, the bloodhound will get lost on more than one occasion. And of course I have been told to those that are do not have any dog training experience, training a bloodhound can get frustrating. Not that they are stupid mind you but they have a certain idea of what to do and may not agree with you.

Golden retrievers are wonderful dogs for anybody but especially a family with kids. They love to play but are also fine entertaining themselves. These dogs are great and gentle with small children and very active to play with the oder kids. unlike some dogs do settle down easily as long as they are trained properly (and sometimes even when they're not). They are very loyal and pretty intelligent as well. A nice sized yard is perfect because they don't mind being a solely outdoor dog (though of course they do enjoy being a part of the family in the house) They are not prone to health problems like some other breeds but if you do get a golden make sure that its parents had their hips checked because that is the one hereditary problem that goldens sometimes face. They have a nice long life span and are not difficult to take care of. They are also normally very reasonably priced, though of course, any animal is a time and monetary commitment. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Absolutely! Bloodhounds are very easy going, laid back dogs with lots of patience with kids. Young kids do need to be taught how to treat dogs with respect.
You should check out breeders carefully before you get one - meet both parents so you'll know what their temperaments are like, make sure the parents have been certified for hip dysplasia.

Actually pits are the best with kids. There skin is tough to withstand the abuse their hair is short so kids can't pull their hair. And they are 100% people pleasers and love the attention children give them.
Remember the little dogs a snippy little Sh*ts
Blood hounds are so laid back you should not have any problems. No matter what age you adopt a bloodhound their temperment is extremely passive.

It depends on the dog it's self... some are good with kids and some aren't... bloodhounds are pure working dogs... unless if you get one to work I would suggest another breed of dog... When dogs get bored... they develop strange behaviors.

In my opinion, Golden Retrievers are the best for families with children. They are gentle and take lots of "abuse" from kids. I have 3 boys, 9, 6 and 2 and a golden retriever. The baby sits on our dog and he loves it.
