Our money goes to spread the word to all the world. A portion of it goes to the poor. I am assuming you have given ALL of your money to the poor. There are working poor and lazy poor. Those who won't work shouldn't eat. Those who can't work deserve our help to find something they can do to contribute to society.
Rather than give money, it is better to educate or least teach trades and skills so the poor can contribute to their own lifestyle. Giving alms without teaching skills is useless.

I don't think this has anything to do with religion. This is a question about human decency. Why do people behave in such a greedy way? We all see that there are people starving and dying of preventable illness and disease, yet many do nothing about it. It is time for more people to step up to the plate, especially those with a lot of money.
If you don't have money to donate yourself it's time we started putting pressure on our governments to do something more. It is ridiculous in this time and age that people are still dying of totally preventable diseases and are suffering because they do not have access to health care. There is enough money in the world for everyone to get what they need to live a healthy life, we need to step up and demand more of our governments and leaders.
Also you would be surprised how much poverty is right under your nose. In the developed countries there are still many children that do not receive adequate nutrition, shelter or clothing and this is due to the fact that there are many problems within our own society.
All kinds of people need to realize that truly no man is an island, and we are all connected. Eventually something will come along that will be so profound it will shake you to the root of your belief system and we will all be forced to face the travesties that have been going on in the world due to greed, ignorance and lack of compassion.
The time for change is now and we must work together, despite religious, philisophical and cultural differences to make the world a better palce for everyone.

Mr Potato head!! Mr. Potato Head!!
Tithing 10% is a commandment to the Lord, that is His, anything else is an Offering to the Lord.
God commandmands us not to have any God's before Him, and in the parable were Jesus met a rich man, He automatically knew what his problem was, it was money, if all Christians were to tithe 10% we would be able to support more than just the church,, ues much more, but since most just let the offering plate pass by or only put in a dollar or two, we can do very little else than support the church.

I do not have a fancy car, eat in fancy restaurants, or have a big screen TV. I do not hide in a shell. There is no god. I have no church. Not a christian. I do enjoy a good generalization though.

Just b/c one has money it does not make them evil. Money is a gift from God and should be treated as one. Money is not evil it is what man does with money that makes it evil. Don't pass judgement on me until you have the log out of your own eye. I drive a fancy car but I give rides to people without a car and people who are in aid. I eat at fancy restaurants but I give to the food pantry and leave large tips. And yes I am aware of everything going on in the world. But nobody can fix everything themselves thats why we should all try to do our bit and pray to God to help those in need.

if all of those who went to church gave their 10%, then there would much more to give to the world.
that said: before you condemn the christians who give money to others (or dont) look to see if the funding and food that is sent to other countries arrives to the people that need it most.
the food that was given to china three years ago, was taken by the government to feed the soldiers, since it is the soldier who defends the realm.
the same thing happens with many of the african countries, the south american countries, etc. i have seen this with my own eyes.
and it is not just food, but medicine and machinery and such.

I believe most are pretending (sadly to say) . Being a child of God is much more this attending church on Sunday. We must live for him everyday. Jesus said to love others as he loves us. Passing up people in need or just pretending they are not their is not love.

You give all yours to the poor and I will applause you. What we give to the church and what the government takes from our taxes and gives to the poor, I think we give enough. America is one of the most giving nations in the world.
We pay a lot of taxes. But you probably don't. Are you a taker? and think we should give more to you?

The Bible says the poor will be with us always. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't do everything we can to help the poor. It also doesn't mean that giving the poor money is what they need. Often they need help getting the resources they need to improve their lives not just a hand out.

I appreciate your altruistic approach. But giving away charity doesn't much help reducing poverty. To reduce poverty we need prudent economic policies like less expenditure on war machines and more emphasis on technical education, manufacturing, industry, agriculture and trade.
