Yep! That's why I'm no longer a Christian, and I'm closer to God than ever before.

Free will is not just a gift from God, but something he intends for us to use every day.

IMHO God does not want blind followers. If you want to read about someone who received an order from God, and literally walked in the opposite direction, read the story of Job in the Bible.

Think of it this way: If you were teaching a class, would you reward the students who blindly followed and produced the same, vanilla results with every test or assignment?

Or would you appreciate the critical thinkers, the challengers, the people who had the courage to test the literature with practical application?

That's what makes free will such a great gift. Inherent within it is a promise that if you faithfully use your mind, your heart will be rewarded.

I guess you could. For me, I decided to believe everything in the Bible and not pick and choose what suited me.
Now, if a Pastor says something I know is not in the Bible, I will stand up, just as if he/she is preaching false doctrine.
But, people don't understand the Bible and what the two Testaments are about. The old pointed to Jesus, and it was the story of man's attempt to follow God. Some did, some did not.
To say we have to kill our neighbors because they don't believe the way we do, is wrong and not Biblically ( ? ) sound. If you follow the Bible, and you call yourself a Christian, then you have to follow Him, and He never told us to kill or harm anyone.

Not that there's a bunch of crazy stuff to disagree with, but you can still do whatever you want. There are warnings against many things. If you choose to still do those things, you will reap what you sow.

People act like there are these crazy things in the Bible - all of these "you can't do this" statements. They are there. The Old Testament had tons of laws. Some of them are strange because they were meant to be applied 2000 years ago or more, but very few are questionable.

Don't kill each other. Don't cheat on your wife. Don't eat dead things you find in the woods. Who wouldn't agree with these ideas?

Having said all that, Jesus came to answer for the laws. It's still a good idea to follow them, but He came to show us that we would never achieve the ability to follow them all.

Faith isn't a brick wall that depends on every brick being in place. As long as you've gotten the main message, you're well on your way to joy and happiness.

The scriptures were written by men who wanted things to stay "manly", so some of it is not something I'd "follow", but do believe in God and His healing powers and ability to forgive.
It really depends on the generation.....

I can take a stand on anything I choose to believe on. Just because I don't understand something in Scriptures, doesn't make it not true.

What's the saying "You have to stand for something,or you will fall for anything"?

Since the heart can be misleading, it's best not to follow that alone.
Since the opinions of men are just that, opinions and philosophies, they are ideas that are imperfect and can mislead.

The Bible is from a higher source.
It is the word of God, and I believe all of it.

Are you honestly asking, "Do I have a close enough relationship with God to tell Him that I would rather do what I want than what He has told me?"

I have a "close enough relationship" that I do what I'm told, no matter what I might want to do. "What I want" doesn't matter; what does the Bible say?

If God wrote it, wouldn't you be standing up to God? No, sorry, I don't have THAT kind of "courage."

You can't be "close" to God if you are antagonistic to His Word.

"God said it, that settles it. My believing it is immaterial."

Well first of all i don't believe that anything in the Bible would be wwrong to make me not beleive in it. But yeha i wouldn't refuse to follow it even if it really was something i didn't believe in. But my church would probably help me to understand the point of the scripture.

Christian perspective

of course you can, you have freedom of choice in your religion.
all started by Adam + Eve.
you can start your own religions (Luther, Calvin, Etc.)
still do it - Mormon, Crazy people who wear same sneakers.
or just little rules and stay same denomation. There are a few basic truths that must be followed, after that we are all one family, not twins
