I am just back from my holiday and feeling inspired, and sick of being a stupid english pig.

France is next so I need some good learning tools or websites.

Practice is a most, but before that you can try to download or use the iTunes resource. There you can go to PODCAST then educational and download the languages resources FREE. For instance I found there English as Second Language podcast (ESL POD) a really good one.
And there's also podcast for french, spanish, etc. Try this link to download the iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/
Also try this ones:
http://aix1.uottawa.ca/~weinberg/french.html
http://fslactivities.sd61.bc.ca/
http://www.linktolearning.com/french.htm
And last find the Alliance Fracaise they are one of the best teaching french.

Good luck ;-)

Learning any language takes time, but when you have the right resources it always helps. You can check out your local library for books and cd's. You can also find free programs on the web like: www.frenchtutorial.com/
Socializing with those who speak the language is a great tool. Look up some French Clubs at local Universities and go to some of their outings!

Audio CD tapes are great - you can listen to them and relisten to them when you in the car or doing housework. It's amazing what you can pick up without even realising it. Online friends from the country are also great for forcing you to use the language for emailing. Also, consider advertising for a student who wants to learn English so that they can speak to you in English and you reply in French. We have friends in Paris and drop by for visits, each time coming back with more knowledge of the language and culture. It's great and a cheap break for you and your French friends.

I find phrase books are great for the essentials. Buy dual language books from second-hand bookshops, especially kids books. Not only are they fun to read, it will be easier and much more motivating than pure academicly studying the language.
Good luck!

In language teaching, speaking is often associated with listening skills and reading, with writing skills. Two persons using the same language may not necessarily communicate very well.
A wise old owl stood on an Oak
The more he saw the less he spoke
The less he spoke the more he heard
So why don't we be the wise old bird!

Practice! Also, surround yourself with speakers of the language, it'll help inprove your grammar, accent and vocabulary, much more than audio tapes and online language courses. I didn't take any formal lessons in learning a certain language I know today, I just listened and learned when other people talked in that language. You could also get a personal teacher who could go one-on-one with you, to help you learn better.

I have a few Polish friends, and i once asked them how they learned English as quick. There reply was ' when you are in a country you are around the people that are speaking the language so you pick it up..
So in other words, go to France, and live, or be around French people.

i'm learning Italian using the free cd's (9 in total) from a newspaper. it's difficult to motivate and apply yourself with these. i would recommend going to a class or studying with a friend or partner then you can practice and converse with each other. the BBC website also has a languages section. good luck!
