In some cases humanity divides and religions integrate. Most crimes have nothing to do with religion (other than the atrocities of war), so humanity doesn't need any incentive for killing, stealing from, raping, abusing or torturing its own kind for personal satisfaction. And religions definitely bring together people of like minds. But I agree with you that religion has played an enormous role in the inexplicably inhumane arena called war.

No, I don't agree.

We're divided largely by a basic instinctual preference for blood relatives. That has over the eons developed into a complex mix of prejudices based on a variety of factors including physical features, age, physical attractiveness, disability, etc. Religion is certainly in that mix, but it's not the basic underlying factor.

Just as you can find those basic values everywhere, you can also find basic divisive prejudices everywhere. There's an excellent chapter on this in Steven Pinker's "The Blank Slate' (the "myth of the noble savage").

Now, I also do not think that religions unify. They do, of course, bring together people who follow each religion, but in doing so, they also set people apart by religion, as must be all too obvious today.

Humanity seems to inegrate on things that oppose God.
- Censorship - compare the language and themes in today's sitcoms with The Andy Griffith Show, or Leave it to Beaver.
- Gay Rights - Gays are people but the act of homosexuality is clearly labeled a sin in the Bible.
- Hedonism - If it feels good do it.

Think about the Tower of Babel. Humanity wanted to unite and God saw their actions leading to their own destruction, so he confused the languages, because when mankind gets together and can easily communicate, there is no limit to the amount of evil he can accomplish.

In context, I think the internet is proof of this. When a pedophile in Germany, can communicate with a couple thousand pedophiles in the the US... The internet is a possible gateway to the next tower of Babel.

Religion has been the reason for most wars, tragedies and sufferings of humanity just because every one wishes the other human being to follow his God.

Can I use this for future questions?

Religions are establishments, patriarchal and exclusivist. the yankee indians used to assert One Earth One Moon One human beings, if shall we come from our Oneness, shall we've peace in the international. Religions instruct us that we are inferior, born in sin, in pick of saving, and that we are break away one yet another. and that they have not executed their job, if that they had it would be obtrusive as international peace. I certainly have even come to think of the bible is stuffed with numerology and shamic rituals, that front human beings into believing it. basically study the section written in crimson what Jesus supposedly mentioned, and notice the way it impacts you. however the key is in there too, you shall recognize the certainty and the certainty shall set you loose, that they made all of it up, and you would be loose from the tyranny of religion. If mankind maintains to be caught, and does no longer evolve spiritually, it may properly bring about the extinction of our species.

well, unfortunately people are different and less that tolerant of those differences. it's not the religion that fought the war, it's the people...over the religion. any religion with a doctrine that tells you to fight and kill people of other faiths is wrong. yes, some christians have been misinformed. the christian doctrine does not advocate fighting over faith. quite the opposite, actually. if we did away with religion, i'm sure people would still fight over everything else.

you keep trying to tear apart religeon. caring people have at their base a belief in god. this is what makes them caring and willing to go out on a limb to help other people, no matter what their religeon is. give it a rest. greed has been the reason for most wars. greed, and the knowledge that you can dupe people into following you by using their religeon to make them believe in you, and question other good people. this seems to be what you are doing. you look like you want to separate people, rather than bring them together. your goal is not to unite humanity, but rather to separate it. no points here. you need to go away.

Religions I think divides people, but not intentionally. It's just a way of showing how every person in this world has a different preference and lifestyle. Can't make everyone think, feel, and do the same.

Now, if you continue to refuse to believe in MY version of life, the universe and everything and stop questioning God, who is right even when wrong, I'll beat you up, ok?(said the fundamentalist to the humanitarian)

Religious extremists are never good. Feeling as though they are the only holy ones then act upon those feelings. This is what usually causes problems, not the religious themselves, just the extremists.
