Hold the old notebook over the new and shake it. The files will drop right out of the hard drive and into the new notebook. I hope this helps.

You will need to share your folders on the old notebook. You just right click on the folder you want to share and click on sharing and security. Check the box, "Share this folder on the Network".
You will need to connect the two computers together. That can by any connection. I have used connections for my MP3 player, video camera. Anything will work. They both should automatically recognize new hardware connections. Then you go to "My network places" where your shared folder on the old computer should show up on your new laptop. It is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Use Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, which transfers all your data. You can save this to a file and put it onto disk compressed, then use the 'FAST' wizard to bring it all back on your new computer. This is available in
'Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools'
Alternatively use the windows backup which is available on your windows cd.
Directions to installing and using are in the source article
Again create a backup, and send it across to your new machine then restore it on that one.
These are both effective

You can burnt the files from the old notebook to a CDRW or DVDRW, and copy them in the new one, then repeat.
Unfortunately, for Programs, you can't just move it like that. You need to obtain the installer for each Program and re-install it in the new laptop.

Really, if you have to ask, you aren't ready for the new stuff!
But, IEEE1394 (FireWire) transfer between systems.
Or, USB2.0 transfer... Cloning with dd bs=256kb if=/dev/hda
of=/dev/hdc when booted from a Linux LiveCDrom(wiht the CD on the middle connector of either IDE cable) with Drive hda being the end connector of IDE#1 and, Drive hdc being the end of IDE#2,
will clone a drive within 11 minutes, for a 20Gb drive.
