I've had to do this once with my child. The first time she pushed it out but not the second. If the child is old enough to reason with try explaining that it will make him better and to try and not push it out.
If you don't have any luck see a doctor.
You shouldn't have to resort to this often though. If you are, try getting Benefiber or Fibersure. They are clear dissolving powders and don't have taste- works good in juice. Also if your child is big enough to chew, there are tablets called Fiber Choice that even my picky child will eat.
I have to give mine three doses a day to keep her regular. These supplements are a little expensive but it outweighs the discomfort and problems the child is having.

I remember those days all too well. I found that lying him in a prone position facing the TV with his favorite video helped. Then use a glove and lots of Vaseline. Coat the suppository. Spread his cheeks. Slide it in. Then hold his cheeks closed and massage his butt and his back while talking soothingly or singing softly to him. You need to hold his cheeks closed for about 3 minutes or long enough for the suppository to melt. Good luck, you are doing the right thing to get him better.

i have to give our daughter suppositories quite often so i know how you feel. when i give them to my daughter i have her lying down on the couch or the floor on a blanket and a towel then i raise her legs and put some Vaseline on the suppository and on her bottom and then just gently slide it in, once it is inside hold her bum checks together for a few minutes as the suppositories tend to slip out quite easily. I hope that this helps you out

I have the same problem with mine. When he is running a high fever, he will not take meds so Doctor told me to use Tylenol suppositories. I have found that if I refrigerate them and then when they are really cold I insert them. Then I have to hold them in for a few seconds . If you do that, he cannot push them out all the way.
As long as you get most of them in he will be alright.
I know it sounds gross, but you have to insert them and then hold them in with a finger. He will get most of the medicine that way.

You are going to have to bend him over your knee and once you have the suppository in you will have to keep him there for a short while. It also helps to hold his cheeks together a bit.
Hope this helps!

Lay them on their side or stomach. Gently spread their buttocks and insert the suppository into their rectum gently with your forefinger. You need to make sure you get it all the way in, otherwise the sphincter muscles will immediately push it back out.

FIRST OF ALL WHY DOES HE NEED A SUPPOSITORY...IF IT IS FOR CONSTIPATION, JUST CHANGE HIS DIET, MORE FRUITS, VEGGIES AND FIBER LESS PROCESSED FOODS (CHEESE, CHIPS, ETC) ENCOURAGE HIM TO DRINK MORE FLUIDS AND EXERCISE MORE........IF IT IS FOR FEVER, TRY FAST MELT TABS OR LIQUIDS... DON'T PUT ANYTHING IN THE RECTUM UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING YOU COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO THE CHILD...... TAKE CARE AND GOOD LUCK

It depends on how old he is. My daughters are 8 months and almost 3 years and I lay them on their backs and put it in and have them stay like that and if they push it out I put it back in that's really all you can do.

I had to do it to baby all the time. You need to put it in and hold the butt together for a little while while it goes in. It won't hurt the baby so don't worry.
