I think u can wear anything and pray anywhere cos he's all over, isn't he!!

I think one reason for this is that scripture tells us that we are to give of our best to the Lord.
But I strongly agree with you. I think it doesn't matter what you wear because its what's on the inside that counts. Someone can wear the very best & most expensive clothes to church, but the rest of the time they don't act like a believer and don't show that they live their faith daily.
I believe that you can & should worship and pray anywhere & everywhere. And that your life should reflect your faith. That when people see you, they see a person who truely "practices what they preach".
It doesn't matter what faith you are, that is each person's right to choose, what matters is that you live you faith ALL the time.

you're right, you can pray anywhere so it doesn't matter what you wear. But if you choose to pray in a church or place of worship you should be respectful in your clothing, eg, being modestly dressed is a prerequisite for any religion's place of prayer.
As for wearing best clothes, maybe this is more to do with the social side of church - you're going out in public and probably meeting friends, just as you would if you were going to a bar etc, so you want to look good. Years back, church would have been pretty much the only social event of the week after a week's labouring in manual jobs, for many people, so they liked to dress up.

You are right, and I wear any old thing to church! It's true also that we can pray anywhere, because God is anywhere we go, but don't forget that Jesus came to establish the church, the church is His bride. We are best gathered together for fellowship, sharing gifts of the Spirit and showing God's love to the world through loving each other and going out as a body to show His love.. I would never not belong to a church.

People wear their best clothes because going to church has a social aspect apart form the spiritual one. People do want to look good when they socialise, whether they are church goers or not.

I would agree that God is all over, but the concept of community, the parish is very important to many Christian groups (Muslim and Jewish groups too).

Looking at it benignly, you can say that it builds community spirit and provide a forum for people to share their problems. People also tend to help each other out more easily if they know each other, and know they are similar (in faith at least).

Looking at it less benignly, you could say that going to church has to do with control, where the political organisation that is the church can control and address its members. Furthermore, if you were so good a church-goer, chances are you should help people irrespective of whether they are from your church or not.

I personally think that the attire definitely has more to do with humans than God, after all, God should have seen you naked and is very unlikely to have a problem with that.

Because it is also a social event, you meet up with people you only see at church so it is like going out to a restaurant or other social event.

You don't have to get dressed up. I think the term Sunday Best comes from a time when people had work clothes which were grubby.

A church, mosque, temple, whatever, is God's house. Although God can see you lounging around watching a DVD in your sweatpants, you are supposed to honor God and dress in the best fashion. If you were going to go over company's house, would you wear jeans and a t-shirt? No. You should always look nice when you go to church. I don't think you have to go as far as suits, ties, and dresses, but I think men should wear nice slacks and a button-down shirt and women should wear either nice slacks or a casual skirt with a blouse.

At our church we wear whatever we want. Just have to be respectful and not wear clothes too revealing. What if a homeless person walked into your church? Would they be welcomed in or stared at and talked about? A prostitute? Better yet a gay couple? God loves ALL people and wants them to come to Him as they are and He will change them in His time. With their own convictions not ours.There's a song called My Jesus it pretty much sums up alot of churches today." My Jesus couldnt come into your church because His blood might stain the carpet." "He spent His time with thieves and sluts and liars" Jesus wasnt dressed nice in the church & He had dirty feet. He doesn't look at whats on the outside but at whats on the inside.

For me sometimes I really take out the best clothes I have to go to a churchmeeting. Sometimes I just pop in my jeans. Anyway I believe if you were to have ameeting with Queen Elisabeth you would wear the best. So that's why people who visit the King of Kings wear the best for Him. And yes some try to keep up appearances but that's no problem. God sees us everywhere anyway. Even when you go to the loo he sees you. But it's the thought and efford.

Yes people do still go to church adn i feel bad for the ones that don't. But um, yeah i go to church and wear nice clothes (skirts and dresses only) to respect the House of God. He even states in the Bible in Deuteronomy 22:5
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.”

because it shows respect to the Creator and his minister.

that said, i dont wear my best clothes when attending church. i belong to a small baptist church and most of the people come in wearing longsleeve shirts and a good pair of jeans.

myself, i have a really nice amount of money. half of my suits are custom armani's, which would be quite pretensious and too braggidocio for me to wear.

i dont think God would like me flaunting my stuff at the expense of other people's discomfort, if they felt "inferior" because they dont have such clothes.

as for God caring what you wear, His Son did not run around in cloth of gold or cloth of silver. if He was not "required" to dress up, why should we expect others to do so.

sunday go to meetin' day, should not be a fashion statement, nor should those who are blessed with more expensive clothes and toys, look down upon those less fortunate.
