“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.” —Marcus Tullius Cicero

People are often taken in by a suppose friend. One who is pleasing to the ear. Unlike the enemy you see outright-there are those that work secretly their poisons.
I think that works not only here in America but everywhere.

I find it a very interesting and astute statement. Enemies from within the body politic are more serious of a threat then the enemy outside. A lot of people may respond to this by bashing the current president and the Republican party but if you look at the situation historically, Democrats were just like the Republicans until the change in the Democratic party under Jimmy "The Peanut Farmer" Carter. Who has the real enemy been? Many of the prominent Democrats have embraced illegal immigration, they have pushed laws through Congress providing support to illegal immigrants, they changed social security so if you are from a foregin country and over the age of 65 and come here, you get support even through you didn't pay into the system. But worst of all, the Clinton's, especially Hillary during the term of William, openly hob nobbed with the leaders of Hamas.
The enemy is not the immigrant looking to make a better life, the enemy is the politician looking to get a vote at any cost to his country and countrymen, willing to sell out the very values his brethren support.

I don't think it applies. What Cicero was talking about was somebody you trust betraying you. Nobody trusts the illegals in the states. They are "the enemy at the gate". Just because they're on your soil, doesn't mean they can do anything about it. They're still obviously aliens and everone can spot them a mile off.

"Soooo, who's the traitor?Illegals?I don't see how they could be the traitor.A traitor is generally one of your own.So if they aren't americans to begin with, then it stands to reason they couldn't be traitorous of the US.And if you are referring to illegal supporters, well,we aren't secretive.I am open and honest in my opinions. You ask me,and I'll let you know what I feel.Whether you agree or not.The only thing I can say is that Marcus Cicero was not an american. We have the right of freedom of speech, along with many other rights. Why and how would we need to be traitors? This is america. We have a right to our own opinions. No need to be sneaky".-----Malinda.

so start at the source, cuz u have named at lthe very least the last 5 presidents. when we as Americans can learn to fix our own GVMT. stay out of other country's problems, then we can throw rocks. but today, yesterday & tomorrow we will still have dirty politicians, murderers, poor education & suffering elderly. so why don't YOU start by sending ur little quotes to the president of the USA, ur senators, congressmen & businessmen to name a few!!!!
Cry, cry, cry, whine, whine,whine- that's all i'm hearing sweetheart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A traitor is one who betrays their own country and harbors those who enter and refuse to declare citizenship. There are many traitors here in America.

I would say that it applies to the current situation because it shows how when illegals come into the country, there is know way of knowing who there are and they may have a hidden agenda. That is my theory anyway.

God - what a long winded - well the solution is to just look up the defination of Illegal and take appropriate court action. $5,000 fine with deportation and maybe flogging of entire family including kids would stop this. Illegal is Illegal and they would put YOU in jail. Why not these people. They just give them your social security money?????????????????????

Very nice. The problem that we face now is an invasion from within. And it will get much worse before it gets better.
