For a start, don't worry. Sixth form is not that difficult. Teachers will tell you that it is such a big jump, and worse than the transition between school and uni, but this is probably just to ensure you take it seriously.

My sixth form was not particularly relaxed but then, most people did very well in their exams. I suspect the two facts are not unrelated.

And general studies - you might as well do it if it is on offer. It is so simple that if you've got half a brain and read a newspaper, you'll easily pass.

Agree with the advice on joining things and being a prefect if you can. These look good on your UCAS and application forms.

Finally, enjoy it. You will have more freedom, you won't have to study the subjects you loathe any more and you won't have to worry about student debt. What's not to like?

The jump from GCSE to Sixth Form is much harder than the jump from Sixth Form to university.

The main difference is really that youv'e got to organise your own time much more than at GCSE, do research for your assignments (usually you choose what you want to do within a remit) and you're not spoon fed a strict curriculum as in GCSE.

No doubt it has changed a bit since I was there. Some schools still insist that 6th formers wear uniform - others don't. Check.
Some will insist that you study A Level General Studies - I had to look for a school that didn't have this as mandatory as I didn't want to do this.
Also get involved in the clubs and societies - they will look good on your UCAS form in just over a year if you decide to go for uni.
Good luck!

The atmosphere of sixth form is great. You meet loads of interesting people and the techers treat you like adults. It's more relaxed.
The jump from secondary to A-level is supposedly the hardest one work wise but there's plenty of people that'll help you.

when I was there it was cr@p!
just like yr11 with free periods and the teachers still treat you like a child. On the other hand, if you would slack off at college, 6th form is strict enough to make you do the work.
