Don't get the cortisone shots!! Pain killers are not the answer here and will only allow the problem to worsen. Cortisone breaks down body tissue and causes irreparable damage. I'm sure you'd like to see a real solution to your pain and not a bandaid approach.

Genuine Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is caused by compression on the median nerve in the wrist. The most common cause of what is usually diagnosed as CTS has nothing to do with the wrist or the median nerve at all.

Virtually every person I've ever seen with "CTS" has very tight neck, upper chest and shoulder muscles. All this tension causes the glenohumeral joint (shoulder) to roll forward and down. This not only impinges the nerves and blood vessels which supply your arm, causing the numbness/tingling/pain you experience in your wrist, but also throws off the normal function of the elbow joint. The elbow is a hinge joint and opens and closes in a singular direction. An anteriorly rotated GH joint forces the elbow to try and function as a ball-and-socket joint. Problem is, it's not designed to work that way and the joint becomes overworked, irritated and painful. Realign the shoulder joint and the elbow will again function normally and the pain of "tennis elbow" will go away.

The other cause of CTS is impingement of the brachial plexus, a bundle of nerves originating in the neck. Hypertonic (tight) neck muscles or chest muscles, specifically the pectoralis minor and scalenes, will cause the first rib and clavicle to squeeze down on these nerves. This will cause shoulder, arm and hand pain similar to CTS.

Find yourself a Neuromuscular Therapist or other highly trained massage therapist. They'll be able to release the muscles causing your problem.

After exercise or strenuos activity if it hurts more, ice and rest your elbow. If the injury is over 48 hours old, use a heat pack. I've got a stitched bag containing wheat which I heat in the microvave for two minutes and apply at night which really seems to alliviate the pain. I also used an anti-inflammatory cream called Voltaren Emulgel which worked wonders also. good luck
