No matter what kind you get it will hurt. I have done a lot off mechanic work and have never had a ring get stuck on an object. My dad was a machinist and didn't wear his wedding band to work. My brother was a jet plane mechanic and caught his ring and finger while jumping from a truck in Korea. My brothers was his class ring. I know when you are first married it is hard to want to take off your ring. Anyway the higher the gold content the softer the ring will be. If he is in a dangerous situation iit would just be best not to wear it to work.

Wedding chain and larger better chain for the ten year anniversary. I have a ring but cannot use it on my finger. Instead As a token of our affection we wear nice gold chains about our necks and place a the thin band on the chain. You know catching your finger can be a problem shorting the ring on battery wires could be worse. And chemicals acid and solvents get under the ring and burn the skin. MY boss thinks he is handy came out into the shop and just caught his finger and crushed the ring out of round not allowing it to slide off his finger. A little spary lube and round punch and hammer I made the ring round again.

Alll metal rings will break if enough force is applied. The problem as your husband knows is that the force required to break the metal is much higher than that required to tear human flesh. Personally, I would not wear a ring in that environment. Have him put it on when he get's home at night or when going out for a nice evening.
