yea they do what they want even with women but we fight with them and try to look for someone else who will do what we want........and also we picture ourselves looking a certain way with our haircuts and when it doesn't come out looking that way we blame our stylists.....maybe we had too big of expectation on our looks or personal appearance maybe you would never look like brad pitt with his hair cut but you will have brad pitts hair cut~hope you get it i am cutting this one short~hehehehe

I should say ..You get what you pay for ...but I won't! Hahaha!
Next time make sure you are communicating by eye-to-eye contact. If you have the feeling that you are being understood then proceed. I can't speak for barbers, but I am a stylist and I make it a point to make sure I understand and have the contact that I feel is a must. I am laughing at your Gilles de la tourettes syndrome. I have had some of my clients tell me some horror stories from the past and they do the same thing. Seriously though, make sure they understand by pics or some other way if you feel you must be that specific. Your specific haircut can't be that hard to do................is it? BTW, I happen to believe that stylists have a better handle on precision cuts over barbers. Sorry all you barbers out there and please don't send me any bad mail cause I'm sure there are some of you out there that do a fine job... etc, etc,

as a hair artist for 14 yrs, I am a little insulted. not all professionals are like that. you just have to find the right one for you . sometimes it happens really quickly and other times it takes a while.
you also must learn the language. tell the person exactly what you don't want and then exactly what you would like to see when you are done. this should all be done in the chair before you get shampooed (insist on a consultation in the chair before any cutting begins)
when you are through explaining what you want, the stylist should repeat everything back to you that you just said. this way you are on the same page with each other.
this is the only way to make sure that you get what you want.
if you don't get the feeling that the stylist is listening or you don't have a good feeling about it then you have every right to ask for a different person or the owner, manager etc.(person in charge)
get pictures and take them with you. the internet is filled with valuable outlets to use. if you can't find anything on the internet then the salon should have books for you to look at.
you should walk out of a salon feeling that you were taken care of and not ignored.
I personally think that my client is a walking billboard, they can suggest you to other potential clients or they can ruin you. its all up to the stylist to do a great job
unfortunately, some bad ones scare people away from people like me who listen and give the person what they want and not what I want them to have.
hope this helps and good luck

You know what barbers always do that to me, and the people in Supercuts too. 3 weeks ago I went to a barber to get a trim cause I wanted to grow my hair to like 5 inches. So my hair was like 2.5 inches so I though he would cut like .5 inches off of my hair. Then he did the sides short which was fine, but then he butchered my hair, and left .5 inch of hair on my head. I'm never going back to barbers again cause they never cut it right. I wanted to start school with a cool hair cut, but now I'll have to wait 6 months to get it the way I want. So in my opinion you should find a hair salon, and make sure that they do what you want, cause after all is your hair and your the one paying. True, it is always good to get a professional opinion, but if you don't have it done the way u want, you'll never know if it looks good or not.
Also for the second comment above mine: We are talking to about the barbers that just throw some water on your hair, cut it using only the machine and call it a style. I've been to a place when they shampooed my hair and the woman cut my hair perfectly, I just can't always go to her cause her shop is really far and I don't have a ride there.

Oh don't - this brings back horrific memories....
Are you sitting comfortably? I will begin
My hair is naturally very wavy/curly but of course, I straighten it most of the time. Anyway, last year for my birthday my ex decided to treat me to a hair cut and colour, as I'd been whinging about it. BUT my fatal flaw was I went to a different hairdresser from normal.
Anyway, i bought hair magazines, knew what I wanted and took various pictures in of exactly the style I was after. In the consultation I showed the pictures, explained I wanted the layers a bit longer so I can wear curly, etc. Did she listen?? My ****. Gave me a mullet that looked like an 80s geek child if I tried to wear it curly. The one and only time I've cried over a hair cut.
And yes - I didn't have the heart to say it was crap, so had that old hairdressers tourettes.
Moral of the story?? If you find a good hairdresser, STICK TO THEM!!!! And don't go near regis in Leicester......

No. But unless you go to a professional hairstylist, you won't get 100% what you want. Your best bet is to find a place where alot of women go. That's usually a sign that they are good =-), seriously. Of course if all the women are walking around your town with a mullet, then you need to move, far, far away. hehe
But seriously, most stylists will do their best to give you what you want. Bring them a picture, do a lil reasearch of your own so you could tell them as many details as possible. They will give you as close as they can, but all stylists have a specific "touch" that they cannot overcome, unless you spend $200 on a haircut.

Yes it is true! I asked for a nice thin down on top and sides for my
long mullet that has a rattail on down my back and all she did was
just trimm the sides and bangs and charged my father $12.95
for the haircut. He said that is the last time you go to that barber.
They didn't even do what you asked them to do. So my mother got
the sheirs out like she useto when I was small and did the thin down
herself and all I had to pay her was a big big hug. She said I was
quite qute with my new shaggy mullet. By the way she left the rattail
all the way down my back.

You're absolutely right! Barbers spend no longer than 10 minutes cutting your hair. They want to get you out of that chair to get the next customer in and make more money. They don't really care how your hair looks and they spray it with water so you can't see the damage they've done until it's dry again when you're at home!
I cut my own hair now. No more queueing for a half hour reading ancient magazines in a barbers, no more dirty combs, no more arguments and dissatisfaction, no more extortionate prices. I take about 40 minutes to do it and it looks a damn sight better than what those idiot barbers used to do. It's not that difficult and you get better all the time.

Do yourself a favour, next time you're due for a haircut TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOU!!
Seriously, most hairdressers are not mind readers and a vague description of what you want is hard to fathom out at the best of times, where as a picture is hard to dispute. If you show them the pickie then they've got NO excuses, right?

LOL! Welcome to life. I think it is a universal problem. Not the mullet thing, but smiling and saying it's good, when in my head I am thinking, 'did this person go to school for this?' But tipping anyway and getting out of that chair before any more damage can be done. Thanks for the laugh.
It is difficult to find someone that cuts hair and you can feel comfortable with. Not too much happy talk. Competence. And when you do find them, they are gone the next time because they got fired or found a different place to work.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
