Your question covers a very wide scope and therefore very difficult to answer.
who invented?: Nobody, it originated from the loincloth which all cultures had their various forms
what will happen if we don't wear them?: Nothing much, just personal discomfort. but i guess after a while even that disappears
What are the advantages of not wearing?: Saves costs on purchase of undies and washing detergents and time on spent on washing
Almost all cultures encourage the use of under-wears.
But since you are writing a thesis , check out these sites below, there is an extensive coverage of the topic. Best of luck

Underwear was not an invention , it was more a dress to cover the genitals. The act of covering the genitals originates from the days of early man but it had nothing to do with the reasons we wear underwears now. The genital area is very sensitive and so early man used to put a fig leaf!!!
Nothing bad will happen to you if you dont wear an underwear becuase todays underwear seem to originate from a desire for hygeine and comfort than anything else. If its okay for you to have your stick dangle and mingle with the clothes you wear, no harm in discarding undies.

It must be Superman invented the underwear... cause he wear it so obvious like a pioneer in it....
If you dun wear it, nothing will happen to you physically, however, it help you save some spending money from buying underwear, and you can use it to buy things you really want.
Advantage of not wearing it:
- Save the money.
- Better air circulation on the private parts.
- Wash less cloth, thus less usage of water and detergent.
- Save the embarassment of someone see your underwear and tell you what is the colour.
Think, that all I can think for now...

It was Adam for men and Eve for women - fig leaves were probably the earliest forms of underwear.
In modern society, it serves two main purposes - maintaining decency in public (as far as genitals / private body parts are concerned), and practising personal hygiene ...
There are some activities during which people usually don't use underwear - sleeping, swimming, bathing, etc.

I always thought it was invented by a guy who had his genitals caught in the zipper and didn't want it to happen again.
There are about 100 reasons for underwear, most mentioned already. What I can't figure out is Boxer shorts. They don't support, they bunch up and they really don't do anything.

You have too many questions here. Break them down: History, geographical distribution, current industry and design. This is big business you are writing about. If you write well it can open some doors to real jobs.

there is no benefit they prevent rashes like if you were running with denim jeans on and it the friction irritated your skin, and support genitals so they don't sag from hanging, and to keep that area warm. one more reason is so you could toss your underwear with the other dirty clothes and hang ur pants up.

undergarments were designed to stop your rough outer garments from rubbing you soft under flesh and maybe soaking a few bodily fluids now and again.
