I would get them trained separately first, its easier to work with one dog at a time, and you do not have to divide your attention up. Besides dog behave differently when there is more than one, its a "pack mentality", I would also recommend the gentle leader for leash training, you have total control over the dog. Its a training aide and after a few weeks my Lab is perfect on walks. If he is on a leash he comes when called, he does not pull, and if he does get ahead of me he will stop and wait. He was also trained on a 30 foot training lead. That way he had freedom and I had control. It took time but in the end he is a complete pleasure to walk even when I bring my other dog along.

To maintain your sanity I would recommend that you work with them separately. Then, when they are mostly trained, walk them together. They are likely to be a bit more polite to other dogs when they are not together, which will give you the chance to reinforce appropriate behavior. Other dogs will also probably more willing to greet your pups one at a time instead of having two pups barreling towards them and trying to avoid them - a missed opportunity for your dogs.

Dog Whisperer. He's on TV and he has walked 10 dogs (all different sizes) at the same time and they ALL walked WITH him. Not running all over the place. It was pretty cool. My husband has started using the dog whisperer's techniques on our boxer/pitt mix and she's doing really well.

Walk them together..don`t let them off the leash until you have them properly under your control...It will take time & patience. Halties are great for dogs as when you have control of their heads you have control of the dog..
