I enjoy driving. It can be a nice way to get to see places that you wouldn't see when using public transport, including remote areas such as mountains and cliffs. I also find that sometimes it can help take my mind off things if I'm having issues in my life. And of course for some people they enjoy driving at speed (thrill factor). I like driving fast, but within speed limits of course.
To an extent it also depends on where you live. I live just outside of Belfast in Northern Ireland and I hate our transport company Translink. They have improved in recent times, but I find their service is just not good enough. The trains are most often late where I live, and sometimes they don't come at all. The busses are a bit better, but recently the driver of the bus I was on did not get stop when I requested it. Instead he missed 3 stops, leaving me almost a mile from when I first pressed that button. If you feel that your public transport is not good enough then it is naturally going to encourage you to use your car or bike. Suppose you had to take the bus or train to get to an interview and they were late? Hardly good enough.

First of all it is not "freedom" as most think it is.. If it were freedom, there would be no licence involved, insurance, car loans and Pigs chasing you for not wearing YOUR SEATBELT. The sad thing about car ownership is it has almost become a necessity. You want a hot girlfriend? Better have a hot car!
Driving is annoying. Especially once the little bastards are out of school then all the tourists start driving around making U turns in front of you...
Yea driving for fun (burning Iraqi oil) can be good IF you are on COUNTRY ROADS... City roads??? Forget it. You will feel like Jason Vhorhees after a day driving around town with all the pricks...!!
Hope this helps!
PS If you qualify for a loan, 75% of the population goes out and buys a car to show off. Meanwhile they're living paycheck to paycheck to pay the thing off...

I Can Go Where I Like When I Like Don't Have To Rely On Others To Take Me Anywhere,

Apart from the obvious downsides, there are some great up-sides like independance. Independance to go where you want, transport or collect large items, give people a lift to places - go on holiday in a camper van - etc.
I have put off learning to drive until now when im 37, i wish i had done it before but better late than never. I'm quite green too, but so what ? i could drive a electric car, or do a car share. I think getting you're licence would just give you more choices.

I did drive, and used to enjoy its freedoms, but really i just hated other road users with such a passion, it became,, usefull for me to stop.
People seem to find driving fast stupid, or somewhere new quite fun.
I admit i do miss, being able to get in the car, and drive to anywhere, and just sit, alone, untroubled.
I belive the pleasure derives from a feeling, of being in control, of your body, and a larger space, than you naturally occupy. I think its like how some people feel about gun ownership...
Honestly, i dont think that maybe 40% of people on the roads should be there, the old/young/stupid, and alot of partially sighted people, who wont admit they have a problem, until that day, driving for me isnt a pleasure..

Driving in traffic anywhere is not a pleasurable experience. Come to the American West .There are high quality roads out here that are simplly total joys to drive. The roads go through some of the most empty and most incredible places you will ever see. It is on roads like these that driving becomes a source of extreme pleasure.

I personally like the freedom of having a car and not relying totally on public transport which isn't exactly reliable! Although I enjoy driving, I don't actually go out in my car just to drive, without a destination - but I might if I had a really fancy car!

forget England mate....I enjoy driving on the Germany motorway...I did 140 miles per hour in my car for 4 hours and I could not overtake any car....my Ford Mondeo wasn't good enough for the Mercs and SAABs there....that's what I call driving.....and guess what....no accident on that motorway....that is the fun of driving
yes ur right the M25 is becoming a car park but in this country the 70mph limit kills the fun of driving, honest...

They cant figure out that is is much more fun and relaxing to take a walk . I guess they much rather sit in a car and breath in toxic fumes and get pissed off at all the other bad drivers. Me I need to be able to see more than pavement and other cars. Give me animals, bugs, grass, trees and fresh air and I will be happy.Oh yeah and all the endorphins from the exercise too. :P
