Does anyone think that science is destroying faith, for example, the creation of earth, scientists have proved about the big bang and that god didn't create the earth. As well as other contradictions found in the bible.

Opinions?

faith is the name we put to the darker side of our conscious side which we were unable to explore

as the science improves and develops ways to cast LIGHT upon the darker sides of our minds, we understand more reasons as to why and HOW and this way we need faith less and less

... which is a good thing and positive development for the mankind

In Quran, God use reasoning to help Mankind to discover God.
God literally states that who fear God the most are the

Scientists in confirmation that the more a person knows, the more directed to God would be.

The bing bang caused created the whole thing, but who made the big bang. It is like we praise computers for doing these great things and we forget praising the people who made it happen.

Last week, Scientists agreed that Pluto is not a planet although historically we learned it is a planet. So Science could change.

Till today, we learned very little about oneself and this means that even today's science is questionable.

Finally, interpretation of holy texts is mankind effort and we again can do mis-interpretation.

If a text in Holybook states literally a fact, this fact is not questionable, and it should direct the science toward the correct research way.

So there should be no contrdiction between religion and science and if a group of middle age used the religion is very bad way that make people today seperate the science from religion, we should not make something bad spoil the total wealth of combining both

You need to be more specific about your usage of the term "science".

True science straightens my faith in the Bible. Two cases in point:

1. Why is circumcision to be done on the 8th day? Because if you plot a graph of blood-clotting ability and protection against viruses, etc in a new born child on the same axes, they cross on the 8th day. How did Moses know THAT 4 000 years ago when modern medical science found this out within the last 30 years?

2. In the book of Leviticus, quarantine is required in cases of communicable diseases. Since man didn't find out about bacteria, viruses, ect, until about 200 years ago, how did Moses know that this method will prevent the spread of such diseases?

There are many others such examples, not to mention the science of archeology.

ON THE OTHER HAND, philosophical science, such as macroevolution, has never been proven and cannot be proven. And the BIg Bang is a two-edged sword: What does it prove? Firstly, that matter is not eternal (as science taught up to that time). Secondly, from where did the matter come? Thirdly, why did it happen? And so on. There must have been a cause.

True science strenghtens my faith.

Comment on John R statement below: Do not confuse what the Church taught 500 years ago with with the Bible taught at that time. We're dealing here with the Dark Age. Know why it was so called? The church hid the teachings of the Bible : the Light was taken away form the world. Hence the Dark age.

Faith and science are in a continuous conflict all the time. Although, that doesnt stop anyone from believing in god or any other supreme power he would believe in. And science just proves and discovers some facts about our world, our universe etc. Religions are about faith, science is based on facts. Moreover, the bible is full of "gaps" and contradictions that dont make sense. Many books have been writen about those facts. And science can be the destroyer of faith. Our mind can be the destroyer our our faith. They are two different things that they "fight" all the time, but it's all about what we believe in our minds.

Science is basically pure human hypothesis. People do not accept the fact that there is a superior Being (GOD), so they decide to "create" their story. Science would never be able to destroy faith. Faith, in fact, comes from the inside, and is your own true hypothesis (Theory).

So if you have faith you would not be worried about other things as science or stuff like that because based on your beliefs you know how to answer the what, how, who, when, and why questions.

How is it destroying faith when faith is merely a story written by a few friends. True it is saying that earth was created by the big bang and not being thrown together by some guy who we've never seen oh and in seven day's. Thing is i'm not knocking faith because we all have to believe in something but questions like this do get me upset.

Even Stephen Hawkin isn't sure what was going on before the big bang. As far as I remember the thinking is that there was a singularity. What exactly this was, no one is sure of. Science doesn't destroy religion it kind of does it to itself in my view. There are so many things that don't make any sense.

If there is a god, science will one day reveal it's nature. Science is the pursuit of truth, ultimate truth based upon evidence. Without it we'd be in a worse state of affairs than we are now.

It's not destroying faith, if they have proved it there is no need for faith in the story's of the bible ect. I mean how can anyone explain that god created humans with his bare hands- so he just got some skin, bones a brain from the body part factory and put us all together- thats what makes me laugh people try to tell you that he was magic and made miricles happen.
It aslo irritates me when people like your own friends try and convert what you believe, i don't believe in anything like that because i have no proof so i put it down to science, it's more of a rational explanation.

Not at all! It just teaches me that mans belief in how the creator accomplished this feat is far beyond the scope of mans thinking! Man seems to think he is intelligent enough to comprehend the Creators power and method of creation! Man is a feeble minded fool no matter what faith he follows! The power of the Creator is far beyond the scope of mans intelligence and science and exploration is the key to understanding! God DID NOT create this universe for us alone!

By the way hesjim, I have yet to see ANY of these facts that you say are proven! Give me an example!

Hello!! :o) Having great confidence in a scientific theory is NOT the same a 'proving' something to be a FACT. Scientists have not proved anything insofar as how the earth came into being. That said... I think God has blessed the world through many scientists. If you're not sure about that - think about it - the next time you're searching your cupboards for an aspirin!! Craig!! :o)

Faith is about "what". Science is about "how". I can't see any conflict. OK, so science seems to think the universe started billions of years ago with a big bang - so who lit the blue touchpaper?

The father of all sciences is mathematics. This teaches us the basis on which the universe is constructed. Mathematics has very strict laws and some are particularly complicated. So how did these laws come about? Physicists like to explain away the universe in physics. Zoologists like to explain away life with genetics. Both need mathematics to back up their theories. There are plenty of atheist physicists and zoologists, but not many atheist mathematicians.
