I am currently on optional training after graduating from a U.S. university and my bf and i want to get married, but he's only had his green card for 2 years. Can I still get a work permit while my papers are being processed? My opt expires in 3 mths.

you can get your green card, but it takes longer than if he were a citizen.... my husband is a citizen and it took him about 9 months to file for mine....although the time depends on ur state.....while you wait, you can apply for a new work permit... which can take 3 or 4 months to come depending on your state (mine took about 4)....and this will allow you to work in the mean time....
and until you get married, you could try for a fiancee visa.... but i do not really think that applies to you since he is only a resident.....
you could re-apply to school for a yr or so.... just take some classes until you get married if you like, or get a job with a company to sponsor you if you would rather stay here until the wedding.....

depending on what your status is when you get married, you would file different forms....so look into this.... i was a student, so i had to file an adjustment of status as well as a I-130 (petition for relative).

check the link.... it is really the best information out there

let me know if you have any other questions

Whether he has had his green card for one day or ten years, if you marry him, you will get a green card as well. Since your OPT expires in three months, I think you will need to get a K1 or Fiancee visa because I doubt you will get married within three months. If I recall correctly, this visa allows you to stay another year in the US to plan your wedding. However, I do not know if you have the authority to work in the US on a K1 visa. Check out www.uscis.gov. to find the answer.

No, you need to go back to your country. He then applies for I129F. You have to get in line with everyone else. If you stay here while this paper work is being processed you are breaking the law and you will be denied and possibly bared from the US for up to 10 years.

I married a girl from Indonesia. She had her working papers well before the green card.

You can get a work card while your I-130 is being processed. Depending on what country you're from, it might be a long wait for your green card so once you get your work card, you might have to have it renewed.

It might be faster to wait until your future husband is eligible for citizenship, depending on where you are from. Check out the Visa Bulletin for information on wait times...

I think you can. Get it before you start processing your green card papers.
