We have become so used to living life with technology that if it where all taken away we would be lost. Most of us just can't imagaine life without it because we don't know otherwise. This is why if there was ever anything that stopped everything technological from working it would be a global disaster. We have become pathetic basically because we rely on it so much.

They didn't, did they? I mean all the people alive 300 years ago are all DEAD now, aren't they, so they did not survive.

Life expectancy was much less than it is today. And if it was not for agriculture and technology, the human population of this planet would have to be much less. Who wants to pick who would be allowed to live on as a cave dwellers, and who is "extra" and will not have resources?

Would you be a volunteer to be among those culled out?

Everyone wants to improve their lives. The farmer wants a tractor to harvest crops so he doesn't have to walk around acres of land cutting wheat with a hand knife. The worker at the factory that builds tractors doesn't want to walk 10 miles to work every day so he buys a car. People don't want to freeze during the winter, so the burn fuel to stay warm. Yes, you could wear heavy cloths inside your house in winter, walk 10 miles to work and grow all your own food by hand, but hardly anybody wants to do that. Even the Amish heat their homes in winter I think.
