So, why when I asked something in welsh, did people treat me like an alien, and give my only answerer who answered in welsh, a thumbs down? What is wrong with all the ignorant people here? Unless you speak in english, you are treated like something someone stepped in?????????

ANNA S ?? I have an A in Gcse English language, I live in england so dont start telling me I better start learning English, this is what I mean about the ignorance, English is my first language but my family are from wales and Ireland so I am learning these languages, they were around well before english, and when you go to another country I think its polite that you have an understanding of their language and culture even if some welsh and Irish people do not speak it themselves.

Unfortunately there are some here who don't really appreciate foreign languages, and may be totally ignorant of the non-major languages.
I think it's wonderful that you can speak Welsh, I envy you. It's a pity more people don't learn the language(s) of their ancestors, or even the language of their local indigenous people.
Keep up the good work!

Problem being that if "All English Q's" is selected then all the English speaking community will see it, even though it was only posted in the UK & Ireland Portal.
I say Go for it - but you might want to ask Yahoo! if all of the officially recognised languages in the UK & Ireland may be used and, if not, why not.
I don't speak Welsh, by the way, but have a great dydd mawrth!

Don't take it seriously, honey. Most people here are like that with anybody who speaks a language other than English. Some questions are funny and so some answerers try to make their answers funny, too. It's no big deal, anyway. It just makes one laugh only.
Still, why do you want to ask something in Welsh? Is it because you expected your answerers to be only Welsh? Some people feel offended when others speak a different language in their presence. It's like you're speaking on code with a friend when a third friend is near you.

Totally agree with you. I am English, but enjoy Greece and speak a little. I posted a question in Greek and it was withdrawn because it offended someone who didn't understand it. I know there are Greek speakers use his site because I speak to them. Ignore the English monoglots (not a word they are likely to understand) because someone wil respond in Welsh.

Because all the Yahoo! Answers in English are included in the American one as well. So if you go to the American version, you get questions from the UK, from Australia, Canada...
And you're supposed to use English on the UK Yahoo! Answers. because Welsh is (obviously) not English.

Well, it is maybe because this is an open site on the Internet and people around the world are answering. Like me I am from South Africa. So if you talk in any other languages then Afrikaans, English or Fanagalo, I will not understand.
English is Internationally recognized, so it is best for everybody can understand it.

well it maybe because most people speak English on here, and it maybe because everyone is not used to seeing a different language on an English site.
i think it cool that you asked a question in welsh but i personally wouldn't be able to read what you have written.

just foolish intellectual children, with too much time and un-edited access to a keyboard. Post away. Revel in your language and cuture. Isn't Welsh the oldest surviving language in Europe?
Pity them, for they know not what they do. Or say. Or think.
