Isn't it supposed to be a place for sincere questions, and cultural exchange? I now see it's for bashing others and making fun of what they believe to be true. Isn't this frustrating? Why don't we grow up and start acting like adults? People mocking God, Jesus, Mohammad, Atheists, Pagans, etc. Why??? Just leave people with their beliefs, because I don't think you can change their faith or non-faith through here! I just want us to grow up and stop this crap!!

What Yahoo, in their wisdom, thought it should be and what it has become by virtue of the kind of people who come here are two very different things.

Look at any public building - a shopping mall or a pub, for example. The character of the place is often changed radically by the kind of person who is allowed to frequent it. I have seen pubs, for example, go from pleasant places where one may have a nice meal and a pleasant chat to rough, noisy places frequented by drug dealers in a couple of months when the landlord changes.

Yahoo is actually very concerned about the type of person who is using this site but they don't have the staff or the powers to police it properly. They are grateful for whatever help responsible users can give in the way of reporting abuse.

If you care about the quality of this site, please frequent the Forum and join in some constructive discussions there. Members of the YAT monitor those and your input is valued.

EDIT: Out of interest, I glanced at some of your other questions. I have to say that I didn't feel that they particularly encouraged sincere and open discussion. Shall I say that they wouldn't have been questions I would feel particularly disposed to answer. However, that is merely my opinion based on an immediate impression of them.

Because it's as free world. And this is an open forum with no hidden agenda. And a free an open and frank exchange of views, and if necessary an airing of common fallacies and misconceptions. That way we can all try to remove the beam from our own eyes, whilst feeling free to point out the mote in others. Anyone displaying simple bigotry or jingoism for or against any particular faith(s) without a decent argument to back it up will soon get shouted down. Lively discussion without people feeling too precious about their own peculiar little beliefs can only benefit all of mankind in the long run. For believers and unbelievers and agnostics alike. And it's fun, too!!

It's almost inevitable that will happen when strong believers try to interact with people who don't share their beliefs.

The core problem is the lack of faith among believers, who find themselves instead trying to defend their beliefs on the basis of evidence. What they come up with is invariably too vague to be meaningful, too false to have been honest, or too poorly reasoned to avoid sending out a "we're just plain stupid" signal. When someone points that out, they get frustrated and just make up more of it, and pretty soon we're convinced that they are just stupid, dishonest, or air-headed.

It doesn't have to be that way, and there are believers here who know that. Just last night in the middle of one of those messes, there came a message from a Christian woman who said that her belief is based in faith and not in evidence, and who then did NOT try to paint herself as superior. No-one attacked her, and I sent a public congratulations (and if you look at my posts, you'll see I'm generally not on the believers' side).

All of this could be headed off if believers simply had faith.

in case you form the questions, there are some sensible ones nonetheless being asked. it particularly is nice to forget approximately approximately the different ones. i might ask nevertheless, why might an atheist, who claims to no longer have self belief in God, even wander right into a internet site alongside with this? An atheist might desire to be out interior the international, robbing and springing up mayhem, with no longer a care interior the international. Are they afraid of the police? what standards are the police working under...? Why do the police and the regulation say it somewhat is not any longer stunning to commit crime? they are obeying God's elementary regulations. yet atheists say there is not any God.' So WHY obey the regulations of somebody who does not exist? you notice the place i am going in this. GOD DOES EXIST AND HIS regulations could be OBEYED...otherwise it is going to fee you.

No religion in the world asks its foloweres to hate others belief. Discussion can be there, but the +ve one. Christians say that they r the folowers of a peace loving religion. The word "Islam" itself means peace. Same goes for other religions. IF someone wants that others should adopt/praise his religion, he should start a fruitful discssion. Only fools can expect flowers in reward of hate.

Well, I think I agree with your observations and am increasingly finding myself staying away from certain areas of this website to avoid being frustrated by all the drama.

p.s. Didn't you just comment earlier about Bush being mentally and emotionally disturbed? Isn't this bashing someone?

Some come to mock and be cynical, while my true wish is to show people the love of Christ, but some people only see me as an intolerant self righteous dogmatic bigot, right wing Republican who wants to enforce his beliefs, this is how Christianity has been slandered, but I just want to see people free"The truth will make you free" freedom cannot be found in false religion and beliefs only in Christ. I know this because he has set me free from hatred, bitterness, anger, sorrow, perversion, and a suicide mentality(testimony)

YES, I definitely agree with you. I like to learn more from others and the why they think. I don't want to be caught up in a childish "whose God is the best", as long as one is sure of you faith, you do not have to be threatened.

Great question, or statement!

l agree with you, some questions are really insulting and rude, l don't mind some of the funny ones, l love a good laugh, but you don't need to laugh at someone else's beliefs or skin colour or race or where they come from.

It got this way because people let it. The ones who post disrespectful questions and allow inappropriate comments are taking this group that way.
