In cases where there is a bacterium that is hard to get rid of, then you need 2. Pseudomonas infection is a lovely example. You are generally prescribed 2 or 3 antibiotics because it lowers the dose given on one of them and it reduces the toxic effects.

Bacteriostatic and bactericidal antibiotics are not given together. A combination of antibiotics are given if they have a synergic action, or when we are not sure of the infecting organism or we want to give broad coverage in a very sick patient who may be immunocompromised, as in febrile neutropenia in a cancer patient.

Two kind of antibiotics are given when there is a need for synergic effects meaning the presence of the other anntibiotic makes the first more effective.

A combination of drugs must be used because the bacteria can develop resistence to antibiotics very quickly.

poorly worded question...nonsensical composition. when i culture an infection, i prescribe specific antibiotics for that infection.....i do not believe in shotgun therapy or administering antibiotics lightly and only because the patient thinks he needs one...as for a slight "cold," for example.
re-word your question, and I will be happy to give you a specific answer if one is deserved.

It is contraindicated to administer the two types of antibiotics together, as they tend to cancel each other. The drug Augmentin has two antibiotics.
