"According to a University of Luton professor, female bikers are at a physical disadvantage due to biological factors such as size, body fat distribution, and biomechanical differences.

There is a women's Tour de France, called the Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale. The race features 14 timed stages covering 870 miles, beginning on the island of Corsica and ending in Paris. The women behind the wheels have to be as tough and determined as their male counterparts to finish the race."

Basically, women could not keep up with the men. Nothing sexist going on here, it's just simple biology that limits women in strenuous activity. Because of naturally higher body fat content, women are actually better suited than men in endurance events, but they cannot hold the same pace. If a woman were to have 3% body fat, she would be deathly ill!

Think of Olympic weightlifting. Even the strongest woman could not lift as much as the strongest man. That's just how we're built. There are a lot of women that can kick my butt on a bicycle, but to be honest I don't mind them passing me!

From 1984 to 2003 there was a race called La Grande Boucle Féminine Internationale which was considered the womens tour de france.

It sounds bad but women just wouldn't be able to keep up.

There are bike races for women. You can read about them in Kimberly Baldwin's diary. http://www.cyclingnews.com/riders/2006/diaries/kimberly/
