Pinworms are tiny worms, about i cm (less than i half in)ong., that are much more common in children, especially school-age, children, than they are in adults. The worms' eggs can enter the body when swallowed by the child in food, or from clothing, toys or even a sandbox contaminated by an infected child. The eggs hatch in the intestine, and young worms quickly begin to grow into adults. About two weeks later, a now-mature female worm lays eggs around the child's anus during the night. This may cause irritation, and if the child scratches the anus, he or she picks up some eggs on the fingers. Sucking the fingers or eating without washing them thoroughly will then cause reinfection. By contaminating food, drinking glasses, sheets and towels, the child may pass pinworms on to other family members.
The entire family will be treated, even those who have no symptoms. They may take one of several possible medications for a short time. The treatment is often repeated after two weeks. Anal inflammation may be relieved by cream or ointment, which may also contain a substance that kills the eggs. These measures should clear up the problem.

Don't know where you live, but in the UK you can buy mebendazole for treating pinworms (which we cal threadworms here.) The dose is 150mg (one tablet), which can be repeated two weeks later, although the best prevention by far is scrupulous hygiene. Someone else has suggested albendazole, which you can't get here but you can get in the US. As neither are absorbed by the body (only by the worms!) the side effects are minimal and usually consist of slight cramping or bowel discomfort.

Pinworms are Enterobius vermicularis..very common in children. One signs is the itchiness of anal region at bedtime. They tend to spread to oither family members with just inhalation of the beddings used by the child affected. One way is to eradicate is find an anti-parasitic drug comaptible with your child health (because not all drugs could be taken by just anybody). And exposing the beddings to sunlight will help. These worms can not tolerate the heat of the sun Hope this helps. God bless!

we call it threadworm here, you will need to go to the doctors but in the meantime.
Wash hands thoroughly, the worms actually don't live very long but are eaily tranfered back into the body as eggs under the fingernails.

Trying to get kids to stop scratch or biting there nails is hard.

Also, at night the worms come out and lay eggs on fabric such as underwear and bedding, so keep that all very clean.

It sucks, try to go for tablet remedies as the drink tastes foul!

Easily treated over the counter at the chemist, but you need to take precautions like each family member having their own towel, face cloth etc, regularly change bedclothes and make sure the kids wash their hands after using the loo!

I remember when my daughter had them and a doctor told me to get some carrots shaved them into small pieces and put sugar on them and have your child eat them. Do this a couple of times of day for about 3 days - they should go away
