If I blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, does this guarantee me eternal damnation?
Or is there a loophole to this, like everything else?

HINT: Augustine

If there IS a "get out clause" for this, please explain, as I can't seem to understand that myself, from what Mark and, especially Matthew, said.

If there is NO "get out clause", how would you console those who have committed this unforgivable sin before "seeing the light," therefore unwittingly condeming themselves to no chance of redemption?

SUGGESTION: Read your Bible for the info.

To those who don't accept there is an "unforgivable Sin": Is there anything else in the Bible you think the authors lied about?

To Rocky:

"Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who *speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven* him; but whoever *speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him*, either in this age or in the age to come" (NKJV).

- Matthew 12:31-32

To 'heaven': So then, how do you console someone who in a moment of doubt let's say, blasphemed in such a way? Or what if they blasphemed in this way BEFORE finding Christianity?

Well, i don't know how biblical this is, but the Adventists say this:
http://www.amazingfacts.org/media/radio/question_read.asp?tID=30
"Eventually, a person loses the capacity to repent"

You know how after you do something that hurts life, you regret it? That's the start of true repentance. Doing evil without any remorse and the conscious not telling you otherwise is part of the unpardonable sin. Not wanting to believe that there is something better than living with a miserable attitude. Hypocrisy can come with it, like from the Pharisees.

The Holy Spirit is an influence of goodness that you may invite or cast out with your attitude, but the unpardonable sin is when you never want it back. My belief is that you don't have to know God exists to have the Holy Spirit.

Note: I really should go find biblical support.

There is a 2 part sermon about it if you're interested in it:
http://www.amazingfacts.org/media/everlasting_gospel.asp

My belief is that if you still have compassion, you couldn't have committed the unpardonable sin. If you worry that you committed it, you haven't. Committing it requires that you have no guilt, remorse, worry, etc when you do something wrong. in fact, you would think it's right to humiliate others if you committed it.

The answer is that God can erase you from existance because eternal life would be miserable for someone who finds hurting life a good thing. Only true Sadists get the quenching fire which will cleanse the Earth so that it becomes the New Earth. Oh wait, you know what I'm saying because you know i'm an Adventist. We belive the soul is the entire being which happens to be physical. It can be immortalized by God so that it can be as a spirit. Spirits can be unimmortalized, such as Satan and his demons. They can masuqerade as dead loved one's and perhaps real aliens, but they twist the truth. If there were aliens, they would tell us of their creator. That's my opinion.

This was an excellent question.

the only unforgivable sin is the sin against the Holy Ghost. You will never know that you committed this sin though. That is why it's unforgivable, you can never ask for forgiveness, thus never be forgiven. The bible nor anyother book will tell what the sin is because if you know that sin and commit that sin, you will know that you committed that sin and then be able to ask for forgiveness later on in your lifetime.

Difficult to understand. Sounds like a riddle. But is very true. I wonder why a person would want to committ an unforgiveable sin? They must not know what hell is like. Satan will torture you forever with the worse pain that no person has ever even come close to feeling on this earth. His demons will never let you sleep, never let you eat, never let you rest. You will not enjoy it at all. Evil people that think they will enjoy hell and are worshippers of Satan on earth willnot enjoy hell. Satan is the father of all lies. He will tempt you now and make you think that you can be his best bud when you get to hell but when you get there he will spit in you face and laugh at your stupidity. The torture will kill you over and over and over and over again. He will show you the happiness that your family and friends are having in Heaven and you will cry knowing that you will never be happy again. Hell is so bad that it is beyond our human comprehension just like Heaven is so awesome that we can't comprehend that either.

To answer you, the most basic rule as Christian.
1st. The Author is God. The Bible is 66 books, 1200 years in the making, countless writer, all this is chosen and God Breath.

Understand that, God is Eternal and forever. Amen.
Therefore, his words is unchangable and stand firm.

2nd. Modern interpreation of the words are often take in context. for eg:

1 Corinthians 6:12 Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything.

With this, we tend to block out the later parts of the whole sentence and became "Everything is permissible for me". And since is in the Bible, therefore God say so.
So, Sins show its ugly heads.

Therefore with Matthew 12:31-33
And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

With this, is clear that blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

Who say that ? Jesus. The word of God.

Lastly, All things in this world is possible with God. Therefore truly repent and ask for forgiveness and ask the Holy spirit to fill you once again.

eternal damnation, unforgivable sin, etc: these were things invented by the Catholic clergy to scare crowds, and to make money (you could buy your forgiveness with money).

none of these things is mentioned in the Bible, I mean the New Testament. On the contrary, Jesus came to take upon himself all the sins of mankind.

the Bible also says nowhere that there should be numerous idols to whom one should pray (but the Catholics have numerous saints to whom they pray reularly). The Bible does not say that Mary is almost as important as God - but the Catholics pray to Mary much more than to Jesus Christ.

Well it's more like rejecting the Holy Spirit to a point where you're heart is hardened and you become depraved. Depravity is self-inflicted disobedience towards God. It's like when God is trying to help someone, he/she keeps rejecting him, and then God slowly but surely gets out of his/her lives. But if a depraved person cares enough about his/her spirit, then they probably weren't entirely depraved at all; just lost. And God forgives all those who sincerely ask for forgiveness.

I am Christian
However I know that the Bible is just a way of getting ordinary humans to understand God.

God has infinite intelligence, he is omniscient, and omnipresent
and omnipident.

We are like nothing compared to that. So God must create a media that even idiots like us will understand. Very nice reading stories of shepards and fisherman and kings and farmers. Remember man wrote the Bible so it is bound to be packed with errors.

Take religion for what it is.
God wants us to love one another, not hurt anyone
and he wants us to love him.

Those truths are universal in any religion

make sense?

God will forgive you if you really are sorry for any thing that you do wrong.

You do not have to be perfect but, personally, I wouldnt trade on being wrong all the time in the hope and expectation that you will be forgiven.

If you commit a crime and the Judge decides to be lenient with you, how will he feel if you commit the same crime and ask for the same leniency.
