Use foobar2000.

Its an open-source audio player which supports third-party plugins and has a very active developer community which constantly churns out plugins and updates for doing virtually anything with the player. It uses a lot less system resources than popular audio players like Winamp and is extremely customizable and tweakable. Also it is excellent for use with large number of files and has great mass-tagging and file operations options. Not to mention the great sound quality. The only disadvantage, if any, is that it doesn't really have flashy skins like Winamp or WMP11. The Columns UI plugin can be used to give it great looks though. But hey, the primary use of a music player is, well, playing music, right?
