I have it too. I have opted to leave the antiboitics alone (got tired of the monster yeast infections) and not have surgery. Surgrery is no guarantee-- it could could come back in another spot! If I have an episode, I use vicks vapour rub. It helps draw it to a head and dull the pain. I have also known people to use tea tree oil as well. If you are overweight, try to shed some of the pounds. I did and it has work wonders! I also use HIBICLENS. It a antibacterial liquid soap that washes away bacteria. I only use it on my affected area (under my arms) and that stuff is like liquid gold! It can be purchased at any Rite-Aid or CVS. Make sure you join a support group too. It just helps to know that you are not alone and everyone is willing to share tips on how to manage HS.

Hidradenitis supurativa is an affection of the apocrine glands. These glands become active only after puberty and remain active all throughout the life. So HS can be seen after any age after puberty... even in the sixties.
Other disease that would mimic HS is bacterial infection called furunculosis. So you need to meet the doc to differentiate between the 2
