I havent heard about the 'genital' thing, but if the guy's wearing pants you may not be able to get 'hold'. If he's already got his pants off...youre probably too late at that point.
There is a very tender spot just to the side of his hip and its easy to grab, squeeze and twist. It hurts and useful for any type of proximal assault. Test areas on yourself or on another person for practice.
