When you have an empty sheet and press CTRL + down arrow you will reach the end of that sheet which is 65536 rows
And CTRL + right arrow will jump to the end of it in 256 columns (column IV)
so we have 256 cols x 65536 rows
This is right for Excel 2003 and below
Excel 12, or excel 2007 will have 1 million rows and 1 millions cols
Inserting rows and cols will shift the rows and columns to go outside the sheet, so you can insert as long as you have empty rows and columns
No of sheets depend on the memory (RAM) you have, I had a file with 400 sheets at one time, but it was hard to open it because it takes too long time to do.
