An imp is a minor demon, not harmful, just mischevious.I'm not familiar with your beliefs, but in mine, a house cleansing spell would not be amiss in dealing with one.I liken imps to be along the lines of a spirit, or ghost and deal with them accordingly.

Well, I have a story or two. I doubt this is what you're looking for, though. When I was little my dad used to tell me bedtime stories involving imps. Most notably was Kirbawitz. He was the one who initailly befriended me in the stories by urning himself into a frog. There was also Fritz Wilawitz and his sister Firlawitz.
I actually can't recall any of the episodes, but I don't think that's what you were looking for anyway.

My mother always called me a little imp when I was being mischeivious. I'm not sure she was aware of the mythology behind it or not. Imps are always described as mischeivious creatures, but sometimes they are little devils, sometimes more like fairies, and sometimes they are classified as brownies (a kind of elf, but think Santa or Keebler elves, not Lord of the Rings). They are also often described as shapeshifters.

Pretty much any small, mischeivious creature could be classified as an imp. That includes more than a few children like myself, I suppose!

Imps cause no real damage, just mischief. Essentially, they're small spirits of mischief that tend to get together in small groups and live behind walls. Though mostly harmless, they can be annoying; the best way to dispell them would be to place salt at the corners of the room where you believe the imps are hiding.

Good luck!

I find it curious that the same mythical creatures are found in most cultures just under different names. I would think an imp is a trickster spirit of limited power.

an imp is a small devilish like character, if you equate a cherub to the angels, then the imp holds the same relation to the devil, if you believe in the bible that is.
