Most snacks and sodas in the US contain high-fructose corn syrup because it's much cheaper than tariffed cane sugar. Since regular sugar is cheaper in most other countries, HFCP is still mainly a US phenomenon. Many believe that HFCP causes food addiction, and prevents you from feeling full. They manage to put HFCP in just about everything now. It seems like just about any food people seem to be addicted to has it, so it seems that it may be the cause of obesity. [MSG is another addicter, the reason for Taco Bell and Cheetos cravings]

High fructose corn syrup blocks leptin in the body from telling the brain is full. So people eat more calories than they normally would. They are also living sedentary lifestyles. MSG and aspartame are excitotoxins. They overexcite neurons to cause cell damage and eventually cell death. The hypothalamus does not have a blood-brain barrier, so excitotoxins get into the brain and causes damage. The lesion created in the hypothalamus is linked to causing obesity among other things. Other excitotoxins are hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and cysteine. These excitotoxins along with HFCS are in everything. So yup, they definitely contribute to the pandemic of obesity in America.

Did you know that Donald Rumsfeld used to work for the company that developed aspartame? He helped to fatten America up.

i believe it is the main cause of plenty of illnesses associated with being overweight.
frankly most people are over weight because of over-eating, poor nutritional choices and lack of exercise in america.
if i hear another person saying " i have a thyroid condition "!!
yeah right, that's a lot of people with thyroid problems all of a sudden.
corn syrup is the worst thing u can put in ur body, it cannot even be processed properly, that is why people gain weight even if they have a little of it.
there should be laws against using it, it causes too many problems, they even put it in baby formula. that is just not right.
i only eat organic

no its not the main cause, simply eating junk with no nutrition is what is causing it, soda , and snack food has no food value and should not be consumed, cane sugar is not any better than corn syrup. no it does not keep you from feeling full, stuffing ones self with junk streaches your stomach and once its bigger then it wants more to feel full. msg is not addictive however many people are allergic to it. you really are totally missinformed, people get hooked on junk food because of taste, broccoli chips just arent all that tasty.

you may be onto something. HFCS is harmful in long term effects. I also believe it's addicting.. It's wise to check ingredients when purchasing food.

The main cause of obesity is overeating. When people come here from other countries they marvel at how much we eat.
