A college student going to live in another city in california. Going to a CSU for 4 years about how much per year would be helpful enough where he/she would be able to live by themselves while they hold down a part time job as well.

Depends what city they're living in. If they are going to San Diego, for example, housing is wicked expensive and $1000 isn't gonna cut it. I recommend looking on craigslist.com and checking local apartment prices for a ballpark figure, keep in mind high gas prices if this person has a car, and how are they paying tuition? There's a lot of factors that have to be figured out.

That depends entirely upon what city. The biggest problem is rent. Rent varies so much by which city and by the neighborhoods. There is often somewhat affordable housing near the campus (in many cases right outside campus) but there too the rent varies as widely as the quality of housing.

$1,000 a month to help with living expenses is great as this could be enough to cover rent, utilities, and food or at least cover the majority.

On average you need about 1000.00 a month to live on, so subtract whatever your work wages are from that.. Or if the person giving you the money can afford it, ask for the thousand just to be sure
