It wasn't important what kind of fruit it was, what's important is from what tree it was. It was the tree that they were told not to eat. That was the sin. The bible doesn't tell you what's not important. So no, it wouldn't mention that it was an apple, fig, pomegranite, etc...
They had eternal life in eden. That's why they could eat from the tree of life then. When they sinned, the tree of life was blocked to them. Then they had the eternal life taken away and could not get it back. When Jesus came, He showed man how to get eternal life again.

Adam and Eve didn't eat an apple. First, all Christian bibles say a fruit. Plus apples don't grow over there. I've read that the fruit might have been a purplish-red sweet fruit related to plums.

Hey Pal, don't worry!! There is no apple, or any other mentioned fruit. As a matter of fact, there is not even an Adam nor Eve...
So Chill... It is today just what it was thousands of years ago.
A metaphor, a way of communicating an idea or a very important message through fictional imagery to make it easier to grasp by those with simpler minds. instead of questioning what was eaten, ask about why was it eaten...

The apple was just thrown in there around the time they started to covert the Pagans. The Greeks had a Golden Apple myth they wanted to rival. But more than likely the fruit they are talking about was a fig, since it mentions later that they clothed themselves in fig leaves.

God created Eve out of one in each of Adam's ribs, per chance Adam mandatory to eat the apple too as a fashion to finish the first sin. even as they (both) sinned, they realized they were bare and felt ashamed. The snake would were coiling around the tree seductively, slithering and hissing.. and convincing Eve to eat the apple.

People like to dwell on insignificant details on things. Whatever the piece of fruit was, whether apple, pear, banana, or whatever.....the point was, Adam knew what God required of him in order to keep living and enjoying the perfect life that he had. Adam made the choice to sin against God, thus leaving all of us today in a world full of misery, sin, and death.

shaw_romeo,
No. It is not the apple, I think that is traditional, though it is still eaten even by those who might think that it was. The Latin name for the Genus for apple is Malus. (pronounced, malice), quite interestingly.
I think that the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was probably of it's own Genus as far as Binomial nomenclature goes. The Apple, like the pear, plum, apricot, peach, nectarine, and loquat, are all in the Rose family. Just FYI.

Because it is our human way to change things from the past to make it more udnerstandable for us. It is just our human need to explain the unexplained. If i remember right the Bible only referrs to it as fruit, so calling it an apple is just our way of making it more compelte and udnerstandable.
