We got it from a kind of monkeys called green monkeys.
They carry the virus inside them but are not infected by it.
it has been suggested that we probably got it from being bitten or eating monkey meat(it's very common in Africa)

i watched an AIDS documentary and it came from chimps in Haiti. their were pochers who would kill the monkeys and eat them sell them etc.
