Unfortunately, there is only ONE way to do it and do it well... two different times ONE WEEK APART.
Shampoo the dog with a GOOD flea shampoo and if the cat agrees with water, do the same to the cat and if the cat does not like water, buy a GOOD flea powder and then put the pets in another place while you take a sprayer and with a GOOD flea spray killer, spray any and ALL places where the pets visit or sleep.... do it again a week later BECAUSE the fleas will lay eggs and even though you kill the flees, the eggs will hatch in a week and do it all over again.... the ONLY GOOD way.

Frontline. You put one dose between your animal's shoulder blades. It kills all the fleas (and their eggs) and doesn't drop poison all over your house. I am pretty sure you can only buy it at a vet's.

garlic in the food. Then flea bomb the house. Sage the house every month.

Try Hartz Home Fogger, kills Fleas, Ticks & Flea Eggs... prevent re-infestation & flea buildup for 210 days....it kills cockroaches too!
As for your dog, you can use Hartz Flea and Ticks repellent to kill and flea and ticks spots to prevent.!

i use this stuff called c-ten flea and foam and it works great
