Indians from India are considered Asians because India is located in Asia. Asians is generic. Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Thai, Vietnamese, are Orientals aside from being Asians. All orientals are Asians but not all asians are orientals, get me.........

Any nationality in Asia is an Asian. Americans thought that ONLY yellow skin, small eyed people are called Asians. Like how they thought the native American are called Indians... LOL

I'm of Mid eastern heritage and live in Malaysia, I'm Asian. So are all the Indonesians, Malays, Chinese, Indians, Philipinos, Thais and other such races

As curt as this might sound, Indians are Asians everywhere else, except in the US.

It is due to a high number of Chinese and "chinese" looking (you know, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc) people in the US who are obviously referred to as Asians -- they are from Asia!

For good or for bad, the term Asians in the US refers to "Orientals" -- oh! BTW the term Orientals is probably classified a "slur"? I think, but I am not sure!

Today most Indian (and Indian like -- Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lankans) prefer to refer to themselves as South Asians, thereby distinguishing themselves from "Oriental" Asians.
