I think these people are very mis informed. Cats do too bond with their owners, at least mine do. They are always so excited to see me come home, sleep with me follow me.....etc. I had dogs my whole life and when my home burned down and I lost my dog it broke my heart. So....I decided to get a cat, which turned out to be three cats by the way, LOL for a little change and because they are supposed to be more independent than dogs and less work. Plus the fact that I dont think I could ever except another dog again and I thought that I wouldnt get too attached to the cats because they are so independent. You see I was mis informed too. In about a month I fell in love with my cats and eventually adopted a third one (a small kitten) and now I couldnt live without them. They won me over and over again. So...Im just curious as to why people believe that cats do not bond. I believe that all pets no matter what they are bond with their owners.

There are no statistics available proving cats do not "bond".

The "feline" species is more independent and can function and survive better than the "canine" species. Cats can be left in the home for a weekend with adequate water, food, and a clean litter box, and your house will be pretty much in the same shape as when you left. Dogs cannot be left in a house for much more than eight hours before they are going berserk!

Dogs don't bond any more to humans than cats. Some humans can't do without dogs because they want someone to be dependent on them.

Love and take care of whatever pet you choose. Snakes need love too!

I think these people are very mis-informed. Cats do too bond with their owners, at least mine doES. They are always so excited to see me come home, sleep with me, follow me.....etc. I had dogs my whole life and when my home burned down and I lost my dog, it broke my heart. So....I decided to get a cat, which turned out to be three cats by the way, LOL for a little change and because they are supposed to be more independent than dogs, so that means less work for a lousy shithead like me. Plus the fact that I don't think I could ever ACCEPT ((except -- WTF?)) another dog again and I thought that I wouldn't get too attached to the cats because they are so independent. It's probably because they never experienced living with a cat before. And as cats are known to be quite "independent" and "emotionally needy", most of them don't even want to give it a try. The beauty of living with a cat is realizing that the cat sees you as an equal. Therefor, you have to earn cats trust and devotion. You can't "teach" cat to love you like you can do with the dogs. You have to earn their love! Once you've done that, you'll find the best friend in your little furry ball!
As for the cats "bringing bad luck" thing... Well, it comes from the dark ages inheritance! During the witch hunts, cats as companions of so-called witches were also considered as pure presence of evil. And since witches were "messing" around with other peoples lives, cats were seen as messengers of bad luck... Thank God these times are over!

Cats DO bond with you, it just takes a longer period of time. The cats I have now I've adopted from a friend of mine after she died, and even though they knew me, it took a couple of months before the first one totally bonded with me. Now he's either under the table when I'm eating, under the sofa when I'm watching TV, or at the foot of the bed when I'm sleeping. The second one (his brother) I just got last week...

If the chemistry is right between the owner and the cat, I think the two can bond quite well. I love my cat

I think it's because you pick a dog and the dog loves you. With cats even though you pick them, they must pick you back. Cats take longer to bond with people then dogs do... its like they have a more sophisticated thinking process... therefore people think my dog always wants attention, when cats have an attitude of I will come to you, maybe... later! haha thats what i think...

When i was sick my dog bought me water. (I just looked at him in distress). Cats are not intelligent and they cannot connect with humans as dogs can. Also cats don’t have a sense of loyalty and owner ship. I can feed your cat and pet it she will come to me. Even if you feed my dog and play with it will not take you as owner.
Btw my dog is a dobie

Yes, I have two cats, one five and the other four. I love their personalities! They are very devoted, but they do remain independent at times.
My male cat...he sleeps on my head. When he sees me going to bed, he follows me. Sometimes he jumps on my shoulder and wants to be carried around like a baby. He licks my ear. When I take a shower, they have to be in the bathroom. My female cat...she talks (meows) to me. She sleeps on my chest every night. If your cat gives you that sleepy, loving look it means they are very happy and content with you. If they stand on their hind legs and bump your hand with their head, they are bunting, another way of connecting with you. When they rub their face on you, they are marking their territory...YOU. They try to open doors. They let you know when they are hungry....They are very intelligent animals, and a person would need to give them attention to find out what their personality is. I love my two cats, they greet me when I come home.....they seem to know if I'm sad or upset and they gravitate around me when I am. Just tonight a spider crawled on my hand and I screamed....and my male cat (who is skittish) comes over to me with his hair standing up to see if I was OK. He actually stood up on his hind legs and reached his front paw out to touch my arm and meowed to get my attention. He was checking on me. So cats are great pets.....as are dogs, but if you truly spend the time to get to know a cat and you treat it well, it will remain a great companion much like a dog for many years!
