prove it some how,,, video tape or something,, also tell someone that will believe you,, like your dad or boyfriend or something so they can watch your back and keep you safe,, and if something happens sue the po-po

I heard a podcast on stalking the other day.
Try to get evidence: letters, phone calls, gifts...
You could set up a "trap" to get evidence of his intentions.
Document everything, time place and circumstances of stalking and personal contact.
Try not to return gifts, or respond to letters, even in a negative way, you are going to feed his obsession.
There are anti-stalking laws in every state, your police are being incompetent.

wow, I'd say if the police don't believe you, you may need to pick up and move especially if this guy's (or girl) is serious. or if it's not so serious go stay with friends, family or relatives for a while.

Why wouldn't they believe you? That doesn't make any sense if they were descent cops wouldn't they like stake out your home or something?
