#1 No fruity drinks
#2 No drinks with weird colored liquors
#3 No shot type drinks (at least not early in the evening)
So what's left?
I would suggest a good whiskey, rum, or bourbon mix. Say whiskey/soda (classic), Cuba Libre (Rum/Coke&Lime), or Bourbon/Soda.
A white or black Russian is good too, although that's starting to move in the direction of a girlie drink (kind of a masculine "gay" mixed drink)
Last but not least, remember "Never mix the grain and the grape" ie if you start drinking wine, don't switch to liquor, you'll regret it in the morning.
Last but not least, stop drinking at least an hour before you leave, don't drink more than one drink per hour, even if you're not driving, nobody likes drunks.

Yeah gender does have a little to do with what you order. Some drinks are geared more towards women.
If I were you I would just stick to what your use to and have a few beers. If you want to experiment do it some other time. You don't want to to be ordering drinks that you think taste nasty after you get it. You know what beer taste like so go for it.
Don't fall into that B.S. of doing a ton of shots either. Your just going to regret it in the morning.
Nothing wrong with drinking as long as it is done in moderation or at least have a secure method of staying safe. Like having a designated driver. Also a person can blow a bunch of cash going out. When you look back later on in life you just might realize how stupid it was.
I use to drop at least $100 a week. It might seem like a lot to some other a small amount. But when I sit back & do the math I dropped over $100,000 on booze since I turned 18 which was the drinking age when I was younger.

Rum and Coke is just about as safe as you can get for a young palalte. Vanilla or Rasberry Vodka and coke is also pretty tame but your friends might give you crap for orderring it.
Kamikaze's are nice, kind of like Mountain Dew with kick in the ***.
Martinis and Margaritas are pretty unbearable to a beer drinker unless they're exotics like a Rasberry Apple Martini or a Watermellon Margarita which again I don't imagine you could order in front of your friends.
Coffee liquor drinks can be really nice like a White Russian or a B-52 almost like candy. It can be a nice way to start a night of drinking as they coat your stomach and dim that hard alcohol gag reflex..
If you find a liquor that sits well with you stick with it. If you like drinks made with Rum or Vodka or Taquila you'll probably like other drinks made with that alcohol

Try being unique . I mean what does everyone think when they turn 21 " oh cool now I can drink" Try this thought "this is my chance to against the grain." I suggest don't start. And what I have observed is this people that drink to the point of getting drunk only do so because they are trying to drink their problem away. And some people I know they may get drunk and do something stupid then spend the rest of their life trying to drink that stupid mistake away.
My advice stay away I only say this because I care about you.
And for all those more experienced and who do know what drinking can cause shame on you for suggesting the drinks to him.

I would keep away from any drink with colas or pop - the sugar can make you sick.
The "shots" are okay, but they also can cut your night short and make you forget your first name.
If you like beer, stick with beers - try a light pale ale or lager. If you think you need "hard" liquor, just try to sip a good aged liquor over ice.
Don't mix beer and liquor. That will also make you sick.
Over ice: Crown Royal, 1800 Wellers, Grey Goose Vodka, Dewars Scotch.
If you just want to sip something tasty, sweet: Baileys Irish Creme - but too much is a lot of sugar.
If you try mixed drinks (not including water), I would try gin and tonic - fairly refreshing, vodka-cranberry, gin and grapefruit juice (greyhound - ask for it without salt on the rim) - I'd stay away from To-Kill-Ya first time out.

You should try a jaggerbomb (not sure about the spelling), It 's jager w/ red bull. Kind of expensive but very good. Or even better an Irish viagra, thats raspberry vodka with redbull. You could go with beer but for your 21 b-day I would try something diff. Mybe even a longisland iced tea. But my all time fav. is coconut rum and pinapple juice. Have fun and happy b-day!!!

Crown & Seven is always a favorite. Doesnt take a lot to get buzzed, but they are also good!
Depends on if you have a taste for whiskeys, vodka's, rums and if you go for sweet, sour, dry, beer and so forth. Let the bartender know (find a girl coctail waitress or bartender) and let them know its your first time out since your 21.. Tell them to bring you their favorite drink. Try a couple our.. they usually will give it to you free..and its a good way to see what you like!

Blue Motorcycles are pretty and a little potent. The only drinks I could remember from my 21st were Long Island Ice Tea and the one were you pour red bull in a shot glass and drop it in a glass of something, I can't remember everything but It all came back up the next morning.
Happy 21st Birthday!!!

Captain and coke is a good drink for a guy, make sure they don't put too much Captain in, because it doesn't taste good. I really like a peach schnapps and cranberry juice myself, but it's a very girly drink.
