I think the best way is to open the doors of the two cages and try to help the bird get into the other cage by using a straw or so .. this way works always with me
the bird will automatically get into the other cage

I usually put the 2 cages with the doors open together side by side and place something nice that the bird likes to eat in the other cage. Then I just leave it alone for a while. 9 times out of 10 when I return it is in the new cage.

They say practice makes perfect.

After awhile, it becomes routine and easy.

You need to learn how to be quick with your hands, and yet gentle when you hold them.

You also have to catch that bird when it needs it's nails and beak trimmed.

I do all these things myself, and I have no problem catching birds when I need to.

If they should fly out of the cage, make sure you follow where it goes, maybe need a net handy, but be careful it doesn't get injured by flying into a danger zone.

Would be a good idea to keep the area in which you live safe for them.

That entails maintainence, like keeping everything clean and sanitary.

Use a spray of part witch hazel and part listerine to keep parasites off the bird. You can also spray the bird with it once and awhile.

You'll find it will keep your entire living area sanitary and keep you healthy as well.

Reach in around dusk, when he's tired and ready for bed, but not in total darkness, or he may become terrified and injure himself. A tea towel can help, too, but you really have to be careful not to smother or otherwise injure him with it.

You may not be able to avoid upsetting him if he's not used to stepping up. Offer him a little of his favorite snack after you make the transition.

If you do plan on putting the cages together with open doors, make sure that the bird will be contained if it strays, and try covering them both tightly and securely with one sheet, so that he feels alone. Fill the cups in the other cage with tasty food, and empty the dishes in the old one. You can shine a light through one side of the new cage periodically to see if he's in it yet.

some say a teatowel or cloth can help in catching a bird, ymself I think they are more bother than help, you can't get a good hold on them and there is a great risk at getting wings or feet bent the wrong way since you now can't see which way the bird is sitting while you are picking them up.

"chase" the bird into the bottom corner of the cage with your hand and then grab around the body pinning the wings with your palm. Be mindful not to hold too tight or you can sufficate it.

How To Catch A Bird

Does it normally step up on your finger? If not there are two ways I use depending on the bird. One, I wait until it starts getting dark and the bird is ready to roost. It's easy to reach in then and slip your hand over it.

Second you can tie twist the doors open and set the old cage up against the new one where the doors are together and it can't escape and let it go on its own when it's ready.

I use clean dish towels to catch birds. This method works better than a net or hand and there is less chance of getting bit too. For a large parrot, use a bath towel.

The best is make them wet all over with lots of water that makes them heavy and hard to fly and even to move . after they are soaked in water if the bird bites use a towel.

open the two cages, and put them together, they try to tap the cage you want him to move from, maybe, ( i never had a bird, so...)
